Hello all, I hope your all managing to cope through this extremely crap time...

I’m complete and utter beginner to land rovers, I’ve done basic servicing and maintenance work on a few different landys over the years whilst working for various garages but have never owned one up until now. I’ve always wanted a defender or a disco and my wish was answered a week ago and I bought a 1998 discovery 1 for a very low price. Engine is sweet, chassis has had some welding work but seems to have been addressed properly and no further issues. Body work could be better, sun roofs are leaking which doesn’t phase me. Going to Chuck it in for an mot in a week and see what the outcome is. The thing that’s bugging me is the abs light and throttle cable.

When you fire up and start moving the abs light stays on, after about a mile of driving it goes off and doesn’t come back on, my scanner unfortunately doesn’t touch it, I guess because of the age? So before I go ripping wheels off etc I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and what they’re remedy was?

secondly, the throttle pedal is as stiff as a dog on heat.. have checked the diesel pump end, that’s nice and free, throttle pedal shows no sign of rust etc so I removed the throttle cable and sure enough it was that, I tried duck oil down the cable and let it soak and no joy, so I’m now trying to find a throttle cable online but there are so many options and I just don’t know which one to buy, can anyone help with this please?

If you’ve got this far without falling asleep then thank you and I hope somebody can shed some light on the issues

cheers
Ben
