Hi all. Just fitted a new alternator to my mates '95 300 Tdi. When i took the wires off there was the heavy cable to the battery on one round terminal, a smaller wire on the other round terminal, and one push on blade type, all easy peasy.
However (there always is!), when i connected the new one up, i discovered there indeed was another thin black wire on one of the round terminals, that i had not spotted in the gloom. I checked both my own 300's and none of them have this wire, so i put it on the terminal with the smaller wire.
The alternator is working fine and the charge light is no longer lit like it was with the old alternator, however the rev counter no longer works.
Anyone else had this problem or have any ides? I presume both the round terminals are positive and did not think it would matter but i have a horrible feeling i may be wrong. Anyone know any better?
Thanks in advance, Rich.

Where did this thin black wire go?I just did one that had a suppressor hanging off of it.....

Not sure where the black wire went, it was under one of the other ones so hanging free, took a 50/50 guess and seems to be wrong one, will have to have another look! Thanks for now.

Have you got any split charge or tow electrics that might be triggerd from the rev counter connection?
