I just picked up a 1997 300tdi (ES) manual and have a few queries. I also have a 1994 300tdi which is heading for scrap (rust on chassis - otherwise ok).

The back door won't open at all - is it easy to take the liner off and get at the linkages.

The central locking on the front passenger door will only open but must be manually locked, you can hear the motor clattering away. Is it just a bar loose inside?

i had an indie specialist check it out before purchase and he gave it a bill of health except that the steering box should be replaced. He will do the doors and the steering box (with a refurbed unit) for €500 or about £300 - £350. Is this a good deal? He will probably also buy the older disco from me for scrap or whatever he wants.

The back light to the display on the radio head unit is also gone which is annoying - can anything be done?

Final question, I contacted the local LR dealer because I have only one remote and would be paranoid if I lost it as I do not have any of the security codes. They priced a replacement / spare 2 button key including programming at €150. I said I could get the key online for £35 so they reckon about an hour of labour for programming? Seems a lot

Lots of minor issues on an otherwise great vehicle - any thoughts

Passenger door Central locking . . . .

I had exactly the same thing on my V8, but was drivers door. I removed the inner panel on the door and found that the door button was slightly (and i mean slightly) catching on the surround on the top of the door panel as it went down. The button twists on the bar itslef, so i twisted it slightly so it was alligned and now works fine up and down . . .
