Hi Folks,

I've got a new Defender 110 Hard Top van on order for delivery in March.

For the last 7 years, I've only driven about 6000 miles a year in my current van (a really basic Berlingo 1.9, no Turbo, DPF, DMF, etc), and I often only drive about half a mile or less to my jobs.

I'm now fretting that the new 110 is going to suffer from DPF problems with this type of use. Am I worrying un-necessarily (the dealer told me it would be okay) or is it going to be a problem?

I've just asked him by e-mail to contact Land Rover themselves confirm that it will be fine, but I'd welcome the thoughts of anyone who uses theirs in a similar way.

PDFs are a pain in the arse! No point in going by the main dealer as they are compulsive liars.
I will ask my pal who fits them

yes they are a pain in the rear,but if you go through the clean cycle as it will tell you in the destructions,then it should be ok.notice i said SHOULD.you can get them deleted via the on board diagnostics,but the new regs regarding that will make it illegal in the near future.it will be an MOT fail if you do that.:(
 
Thanks chaps. I've been looking at the deletion option, but that obviously won't be a possibility if it's illegal, and certainly not while it's under the first three year's warranty. Of course it will need its first MoT just after the three years is up, too.

I wonder if the warranty covers DPF failures?

if under warranty then yes it should be covered.there is a company than can now clean DPF now.;)
 
All you need to do is take it for a decent hot run on the motorway to clean it. It doesn't take long I wouldn't worry overly much I have had a few cars with dpf and have done both high and low mileage and haven't had any issues

yes that is what is supposed to happen.does not always work though.:(
 
Got one of them DPF buggers on a RAV4. It is an inferior Japanese motor which does not help. Missus does mainly short journey work so it has to be bollocked up a motorway at 2000 plus revs for 20 minuites minimum. Sometimes takes a bit longer run. Sticker on fuel filler "low sulphur diesel only"
 
A mate has a X Trail

The DPF light was on every 2 weeks so he'd rag it up the motorway until it went out

Since he started running it on shell nitro it hasn't come on at all

Whether it burns cleaner I don't know
 
My company car passat had one it went I drove it quite hard I had to drive up and down the A41 at 4000 RPM 3rd gear circa 70 ish mph to get it hot to "regenerate" I.e get hot enough to cleani itself. It worked 3 times but then it needed a new one £2K fitted. Not under warranty apparently even after lots of letters we only got half the money back
 
There is a point that thety are not fit for purpose for people living and working in the City (London) never getting it hot start stopping all the time a Few people are really trying to take the manufacturers to court after excessive repair bills
 
dpf stop bad stuff getting out but then you have to screw the arse off car to clean it out in one go, talk about the old parifin trick for smoke test. Just a modern version imo.

I bought a focus cheap because the owner had been to ford, they'd quoted him over £1000

I got one fitted for £400 all in

You just avoid main dealers
 
Heard they need electrical pull to regenerate. I have know idea wtf these things do.
