Hi there,

I have just registered and am thinking of of buying a Freelander.

I found a Freelander that I quite like, 2006 2.0L TD4 with 75k miles.

Is the milage too high?

Should I look for something with less miles?

Also it comes with a 2 year warranty... Which is very appealing.

:welcome2:I'm on my second Freelander. The 1st was a 2000 X plate 1.8GS which had 95k on when i got rid of it. Had it from 40k no major faults ( still had the original exhaust!). I now have a 2005 TD4 HSE which I've had a year. The engines are very good. With the warranty I wouldn't worry.

75K motorway miles is better than 30k stop/start city miles.
don't worry too much about the mileage just give it a good inspection and test drive.
 
My 2001 Tdi (which I bought new) has done around 125K and only superficial things going wrong - it's been a very good buy as far as I'm concerned. I intend to hold onto it until I can't rely on it to get me from A to B - so far no indication that this will happen any time soon. Mechanic reckons the engine could/should last 500K.
 
Forget the warranty and get another £500 off. We had one of these "lifetime" warranties which was pointless - basically wouldn't pay up if the part had failed under normal circumstances or if the repairs "bettered" the vehicle . What repair doesn't make a car better anyway? Sale of Goods Act still applies in any case - it has to be of merchantable quality and last a reasonable time without failure. All these warranties are good for is helping the dealer out of their responsibilities.

Wheel sensors and back window winder are common probs, other than that go for it.

Just watch the road tax on a 2006 car, it might be more expensive.
X- plate Td4s are the cheapest to tax at around £185-£190 approx,
Y-plate to 55-plate Td4s are around £25 per year more expensive to tax,
but a new band was introduced in march 06 & I'm not sure if it's only the autos or whether the manual models are also affected. Worth checking out though.
 
That's because the critical date is March 2001. Anything registered from then on is subject to the new higher multiple tax banding. The 2006 bit only applies to vehicles registered new from that year and are subject to a one off extra tax on purchase i.e. up to about £1000 in the first year and the 2001-on fluctuators apply thereafter.
