Hi i need info on tweaks for the 2.5 diesel to get a bit more torque have been looking at LPG, magic box or a chip any help would be good thanks

The chips and magic boxes work well, got a box on mine and it made a big difference especially towing the tin tent, but mine is a manual with the auto box it puts on the limits that the box can handle.

You cant make an elephant fly, if you want more power, sell it and buy a 4.6 petrol. If you boost the power significantly, you will need to change the gearbox

An autobox is much stronger than a manual box. Almost no really powerful cars have manual box.

When i was looking for P38's i made the mistake of driving a 4.6 first.

In comparison the 2.5 is hilariously slow and very thirsty, the car i test drove was averaging 21mpg compared to the 16mpg of an LPG converted v8.

I would go as far to say my old diesel classic was faster.

A tuning box would make a difference however as said above the car is a behemoth.

The HP22 has a torque limit according to ZF of 350nm.

Anything above this will eventually cause a fail.

The 2.5 in stock form in 270nm so the remap will have to be fairly sedate to stop damage to the gearbox by going over its torque limit.

A good idea might be to retrofit the better more robust 4hp24 its torque limit is a higher 450nm.

Expensive though...

I think you'll find this isn't the case on the Rangie. The manual gearbox is called R380 for a reason. For the 4.6 they had o go find a stronger gearbox (the HP24) as the HP22 couldn't handle it.

I wouldn't touch a Powerbox myself. You can get a replacement chip though for the ECU although it has to be desoldered so it needs someone who knows what they are doing.

Just looking a little bit more torque to stop the box getting a workout every day driving over the Brecon Beacons
Yes it will give you enough extra torque, mine went from slowing down on hill with caravan to accelerate up them:D well pleased I just don't have to work it so hard.

was looking at the chip from the guy in the czech republic and soldering a socket in the ecu so the chip would be a plug & play
so there is no risk of heat damage to the chip the guy also needs the number of the ecu to give you the right chip that means taking it apart that is a pain on a daily driver or can i use another ecu

Another ECU will need to be paired to the BeCM....

Take heed of the advice above - more torque will eat the 'box in short order if used a lot.

Never had a Range Rover, and don't want one, but generally auto is much stronger, and also gives an easier life to engines and drive train components.

All the big American muscle cars that produce 800 horse have auto, a clutch and manual box doesn't like that kind of power.

It has been noted a good number of times, the hp22 will lunch itself if you tweak the M51 to far.

In general auto boxes are more resiliant than manuals.....but you still have to take into account the designed limits of the hp22 and if you tweak the engine to much it will eventualy eat itself.

The HP22 will handle the torque from a chipped diesel no problem, as it is about the same as the torque of the 4.0 petrol but with slightly different curves. The problems arrive if a 100,000 mile plus car with a neglected HP22 is chipped then you start towing with it. Or the car has been used for towing in the past and has a neglected box. Everything is relative.

R380 is essentially the old Rover box designed for a V8.

Sorry for my lack of info to you guys mine is an auto and all i want is to give it an easy life and not to rev its ass off going up hill !
Though the comments are food for though maybe turn my old 4.0L into a manual

So when mike from dyno chips came to do our discovery he asked if my p38 was a diesel as he could offer a similar remap for it, no I said "shame he said". His chipped ecu he swopped out of our d2 has transformed it try giving him a call 1st
