Hi guys,

Newbie here based in edinburgh but.......you guessed I need help.

I have a X reg (sept 2000) p38 vogue 4.6 petrol RR and only bough it about 3 weeks ago but now have serious issues in getting it going.

When I bought it (private sale) the RR Everything worked fine, central locking off the key fob and started first time every time.

Last weekend I was down at recycling centre, 3rd trip down with no issues and then got back into the jeep and says "engine disabled"........ Thought to myself ohh f*@k what is this. Im new to rangies so want sure......anyway long story short, Google search for help, rang a guy down south and told me how to put in the eka which got me home.

Since then I have done a lot of research on here and RR.net but can't find an answer,

I believe it was the becm and ECU losing sync and so bought a blacbix solutions sync mate thinking that would fix it.

It didn't. Nothing wrong with the sync mate its just seems to something else.

So to now........the eka does not work anymore. The code is correct but the RR just will not recognise the code input. I took out the door lock, stripped it down, cleaned it and re fitted it. Still will not accept the code.

I have entered the eka several times but it never says "lock out" as it should from several incorrect attempts, hence why I thought the door lock actuator and micro switches were not working.

I changed the fob batteries, tried again with sync mate and tried to sync fob a door lock and ignition (passive way), tried eka again but still cannot get anything to work.

I'm well and truly stumped and would in dire need of some advise or if at all possible meet up with someone who has a nanocom to read the faults on it.

Any help would be really appreciated guys

Firstly don't call them Jeeps, it doesn't go down well

Then check the wiring from the door lock to the BECM. The favourite place for them to fail is where it goes from the door into the body.

Oh and welcome from an ex-pat.

Cheers dogs body

Point taken on the "Jeep" reference!

When I was stripping out the lock all the wiring seemed intact but I'll have a second check.

Its just wrecking my head now..... it will not sync, will not pick up eka input

Just lucky I have it at home and not stuck on the road

Also check all your doors and tailgate. Open and close them all and operate all the buttons. It only takes one of them to stick to stop the central locking operating properly - which in turn prevents the EKA code. I was locked out for a day, stripping the drivers door to bits only for my 7 year old daughter to fix it by playing with the tail gate! :)

Not been at home yet, I checked the cabling but seemed fine. I will be back later tonight and will check all door latches/locks open/close and see how we get on.

Will be speaking with mozz later so hopefully will have a better idea.

Sorry you having this sort of problem. Just a few thoughts. I have an x reg 2000 4.6 it uses the later motronic engine management ECU as against the earlier GEMS system. Did you get the correct syncMate for the motronic?
On mine, I have TestBook T4 diagnostics. The battery voltage needs to be v.good for the diagnostics to work, how is your battery? Look in your owners handbook to see how to diconnect the battery to prevent Alarm setting, and then give it a good charge.
Does the engine spin over and not start? or nothing (maybe a click under passenger seat). Handbook will also how the EKA is input, have you followed this - from the book?
All Rangies (not Jeeps) have two white silly cheep plastic connectors in the lower panel just in front of the front doors. These can corrode and stop communication to diagnostics especially on the passenger side for air suspension (will put up a pic if I can find it) these should be wired out (indidvidualy soldered, do them one at a time!) also in the lower panel, drivers side is the cut off switch, take the cover off and make sure it hasn't popped.
Have you checked all fuses, engine and under seat - with under seat did you put them back exactly where they camme off? Fuse box in engine compartment can give problems, try moving the relays a bit and see if any have got hot.
Its possible that the reclaim centre may have a mobile phone near it that cause the first problem with your rf reciever, I had to change mine to tha last made to stop battery drain.

Now sorted and starts perfectly but has raised a few more questions though.

Randomly there is a red two way switch at the bottom of the drivers seat, just where you would put your heels back against. Never noticed it before, flicked the switch, turn the key and starts! Central locking and all the rest works perfectly now.

Now the question is what the hell is it for? It's not standard so someone put it there for a reason. I'll have to contact the previous owners.

Wiring is buried under the seat but from what can see is it runs back betond the becm and not directly into it. Maybe fuel pump isolator? But them the eka worked? Cannot work it out. Maybe wiring doubles back to becm and isolates.

Either way I will have find out. I was talking to mozz at the time, cheers for the help by the way mozz, and found the switch, if it a becm isolator to stop battery drain (to put it to sleep) it can't be the best way to do it.

What I have found though is a small solar panel on back left shelf to possibly top up battery, which could again be hiding more.

I'll put a few pictures when back on the laptop, only phone now.

Thanks anyway to all offering advice

Cheers
