First post so Hi all ,always been into landys finally brought one about 5 weeks ago great little runner starts first time no smoke 1989 90 2.5 td any way egged on by a mate to go through a river which i thought was a brilliant idea so fired it in the river water height just below bonnet thats when my landy world fell apart it stalled just coming out of the water the other side took a bit to get started again a real lack of power and loads of white smoke, miss firing the smoke clears when you start driving but is back on start up again and stays if she is left at idel was hoping it would clear but have done 80 or so miles in it and is still the same i was told it was the turbo but had it to a garage and they reckon it is the head gasket these are both expensive jobs does anyone have any ideas this all happened 2 weeks ago and it is still the same thanks for getting this far without falling asleep.

Sorry, but blaming an imaginary mate does not get any sympathy on here, been tried before:)

I take it you had no snorkel fitted, in which case you may have screwed the engine with intake of water through the air filter, which does not compress in the cylinder and causes valve damage...........head off i think to be sure.

cheers gramor does a little voice in my head not qualify as a mate bollocks! leave me alone

Some round here would say yes.

have yu taken off the oil filler cap and looked for the emulsified oil?

White smoke-water
Blue smoke-oil
Black smoke overfuelling

Is it still misfiring?

theres nothing in the top of the oil filler cap it doesnt miss fire anymore but does hunt at idel the other thing i noticed is the temp gauge goes straight up to hot on start up when you press the accelerator it drops when you take your foot off it goes back up again which it did not do before sounds fu"*&$ to me and im no mechanic.

why not buy a haynes and take the head off yourself and check becoming your own mechanic is all part of landy ownership if your in the north west mate i can have a quick look for you at least you'll get a definate diagnosis
