Some mindless pondlife has keyed my discovery bonnet. The scratch is only 6'' long but it's down to the metal and I've requested a quote from the local LR approved paint shop which I'm told will be around £200 - don't know if that's inc vat or not. I'm anxious about getting a crap paint job that sticks out from the rest of the bonnet, but find the LR shop's quote a bit on the eye-watering side. A long shot, but can anyone recommend a reasonable paint shop in the Glasgow area? I've had a quote from 'chips away' who are £50 cheaper, but have no idea of the standard of their work.

thanks in advance
Bill

they are running a business, not a charity. You don't want a smart repair-then what do you expect

I would try and find a second hand bonnet in the same colour, off ebay... will probably be cheaper than getting a spray job

cor if i wanted to have all my scratches sprayed out i would be looking at thousands. i even have a go faster stripe that runs the length of my 110 thanks to a log :D

chips away are a cosmetic repair company, cosmetic repairs are designed to be done on bumpers, some good companies can do good quality work on wings/doors.

bonnet/roof/boot ....... DO NOT get a cosmetic repair, it WILL look poo and you WILL see it.

£260inc is not a bad price for a disco bonnet scratched down to the metal. by the time that 2mm wide scratch has been sanded and feathered out the area to be painted is more like 6" accross, the length of the scratch will also double. that alone takes time to do right, then add the time to remove the bonnet from the car, the cost of primer and paint and lacquer, the time spent in the spray booth, the refit time, the flat+polish time. does it have a sticker on the leading edge of the bonnet? they aint free. is the bonnet a pig of a colour? will it need blending into the wings due to colour shade variation? the list goes on ........

more to the point - if you cant do it yourself then pay the people who have spent years learning their trade!!
