Morning, not been on in a while but finally got my 96 DSE out of the garage after 5 years and MOT’d just needed front to rear brake pipes doing.
So now working thru some minor issues and need help to check timing modulation so I can assertion if static timing need doing and hopefully remove hot start fix, also check/adjust ride heights as my laptop hasn’t got a serial port and not sure which adaptor to purchase?
So anyone in the St Helens area has a nanocom and willing to check for beer tokens it would be appreciated. Thx

If you have EASunlock and are thinking of using it on a laptop that needs the USB/serial adaptor, make sure you put the driver for the adaptor into the laptop BEFORE you plug in with EASunlock attached.

the RSW EAS software is better for doing the heights IMO. If you buy a USB to serial adaptor, it needs to be a full RS232 implementation with RTS/DSR operational and as Wammers said, you must load the driver before plugging the adaptor in.

Check the LZIR map. Think @JohnnyCrash was in that area and had a Nanocom but not heard from him in years. There was another user near Sandbach too. And there's @Wazzajnr not so far off too.

Evening, thanks for the responses, I plan on using RSW solutions EAS unlock
Suite from a laptop running windows 7, I have ordered a connector from eBay
and no idea if I need to download a driver for it to work, let alone which one I
while need to download?
I have attached a pic of what I ordered so please let me know if this will do the
Job and any advice on a driver would be appreciated, thx

I made a cable from the diagram included with the download, works a treat. The only issue I get (not really an issue) is getting the right port when I start EAS Unlock and remembering the timer relay...….
I have a nano on its way so maybe I will abandon EAS Unlock, I am wondering if an EAS fault can be cleared on the fly while driving......

Just heard back from adaptor supplier, they said providing laptop is
connected to the internet the driver is automatically Downloaded from windows
update once plugged in alternatively they have sent me a link, will wait and see
what happens.

It should come with the require driver. You just have to hope at that price that it has a full RS232 implementation or it will not work

Prolific chipped serial converters are nornally OK although I prefer to go for FTDI ones as I've found them to generally work better.
I do have nanocom for thor engine but it should do eas on yours but I'm away for the next two weeks.
If you haven't sorted it by the time I'm back, I can pop over and have a look. I have a customer to go and see in St Helens anyway so I'll be over that way.

I have half a dozen Prolific USB to serial adaptors you can have, none of them have RTL/DSR connected and so do not work with the EAS software.
