Just wondered if anyone knows if the Nanocom unit for a TD5 Defender will read the engine signals on a TD5 discovery?
I know they are specific to vehicles and of course they will not see the stuff relating to suspension etc, but the engine signals must be similar and I just wondered if anyone has ever plugged the TD5 Defender unit into a TD5 Discovery to see if anything reads or is it completely locked out.

i didnt try myself but imo it should read the engine management inputs, but nothing bad will happen if you try

There was a group buy not so long ago, I bought for my D2 TD5.

here's the thread

ask your question in there, someone will probably know.
Hi Landy man
Yes that's when I bought mine, its a useful tool, the reason I am asking the question here is because I was looking at the thread below ( see last pages) where Mark seems to be in trouble with his TD5, I am too far away to help him but if my Defender Nanocom would work on his Discovery maybe I could post it and give him a loan for a week or so to help him eliminate any other problems, might save him some time and money.

Ah, I don't know if they're compatible, shame i'm not closer, I would have gone down to him and plugged mine in.

EDIT: I thought he was in Bedford, he's actually in Bedford and Tallin, in Estonia :s

Are you sure? I saw on the last page :

Hi all. Although Im up and running again, I still have a misfire and white smoke, so its not happy!
The white smoke is unburt fuel (acrid and "heavy", rather than steam) so as suspected the injectors will need re-coding.
Ive been looking for someone local to me, Herts/Beds area, who can come and do it onsite.

I was just going on what it said on his profile

I very much doubt it as you have to press the vehicle option you have, if you press the Discovery one and dont have the unlock cock in your unit, I wouldn't think the software will open.

yes the first option is vehicle, I suppose if you say defender and try to go on it might object, just wondered if anyone may have tried so we know for sure.

I knew the defender option wouldn't work on the nanocom, I was under the impression that you wanted to see what would happen if you plugged a defender td5 nanocom into a disco with a td5 engine?

Hi Yes I do live in Tallinn and Bedford!!! Family is in Tallinn, work is in UK, hence the travelling!
The Disco is in Bedford!
Flying off tomorrow.
Still tempted to do the drive there with the Disco, but only after a good wringing out in the UK first!

Sorry I misunderstood earlier yes that was what I was curious about I have the defender unit but I don't know anyone with a td5 discovery I wondered if you plug it in to the discovery select defender then go to engine would it show anything

the way it might work is to plug it in the other car(discovery in this case but it's valid the other way around too) ans select the car for what the nanocom is unlocked(defender in this case) then in the td5 engine menu it might comunicate with the engine of the other car if you see what i mean,

I've just went onto the Restricted area of the Nanocom site and checked my unlock codes.
Lo and behold, heres what it says

Somay be worth a check of your unlock codes. Seems it should do what you want

Yes checked mine today and they are the same.
Looks to me that you can access the TD5 engine parameters on either set up.
