So I recently inherited a 2006 D90 TD5 from my Mum, who passed away late last year. The maintenance history is a bit sketchy (I know the name of a guy who worked on it, but that's about it), so I'm going over it gradually. I'm quite novice in general, and not at all familiar with Land Rovers (yet?).

Whilst cleaning in the engine compartment, I came across this mysterious rubber plug thing, lodged between the steering box and the frame. It's threaded on the outside and seems to have a hexagon shape on the inside. It's fairly hard, but I can squish it between my finger and thumb. What it is?? I'm hoping it's something that a previous mechanic dropped (maybe replaced??), and not something important that's fallen out from somewhere. I have no idea what to Google for! :)

Looks like a pipe/thread protector as fitted to new replacement parts that are removed when fitting to the vehicle not something that is actually fitted to it.
