Well hello, and thanks for the welcome I've already had in other parts of the forum. I'm picking up me freelander (or should I say gaylander?) on thursday and can't wait to get my hands on it. Out of interest it's an 03 3dr TD4 GS auto. I'm a complete newbie to 4x4 and Landrover, and I know I'm not buying a proper off-roader, which will break down all the time and cost me more than a small island in the Caribbean, but that's life.... That's that over with (for my part anyway, over to the rest of you now).

I live in Osmotherley, North Yorkshire, a lovely part of the world. I love to get outdoors and away from the office as much as possible, so hopefully my new FL will help me do this.

I'm also a very keen amateur photographer. If anyone is going out off-roading or green-laning and would like some pictures taking (within reasonable miles from me), I'd be happy to do it. I'm not trying to spam or make money - I'd like to meet some of you guys and get some practice with my camera, and dare I say it have a go at green laning (given the chance to get used to the car and learn how an auto works first!). I'd share all pics on here and email copies to anyone who wanted them (no money involved either way). I wouldn't guarantee brilliant pictures, but would do my best, which generally means a few good shots. I also run a local photography club so could get quite a few people along for a shoot if I had some notice - the more the merrier! If I should post this 'request/offer' anywhere else then let me know and I'll put something up.

Probably a well asked and answered question, but what's the origin of 'hippo'? I've seen the name used many a time in reference to freelanders but haven't got a clue on why. Maybe I'll just 'use the f'in search' and find out, but if anyone fancies saving me the effort feel free ;)

Hi and welcome to the loony zone from a fellow Yorkie. Hippo comes from LR's advertising campaign where the morphed a hippo coming out of a river crossing, into a freelander. and also because that's what they handle like :D :D
