The transfer gearbox shift linkage just came off on my 90 TD5. After removing the gaiter and insulation pad, the female splined lever on the end of the splined shaft has come off. Looking at the shaft, it must have only been half on to start with (half of it is clean, the rest dirty). The shaft goes in and out when 'normal' or 'difflock' is selected, but it seems to go too far to the left, which has obviously forced the lever off the shaft. I can't find any mention of any adjustment in the workshop manual.. Also, the pinch bolt didn't seem too keen to tighten up fully when I tried to put it back. Anyone got a suggestions to prevent it happening again please?? The transfer gearbox recently had Disco ratios fitted, so there's a possibility it was disturbed then..

Pi$$ taking ba$tard!

I thought the in depth description about the ECU removal on the TD5 was quite extraordinarily well explained though!

I just clicked on one of the workshop manual links and my PC ran out of memory downloading a 485 page German Defender manual!
