Here are a few pictures of the series 3 I picked up last week. A fair wee bit of work required but I am hoping to do it all myself. So if it all works out right you should be able to see pictures in this thread. This vehicle was built in 1982 and served with the MOD untill it was de-mobbed in 1999. It has also had some off road use after this. It was bought in England a few years back and brought here to Northern Ireland. The vehicle was owned by a chap from Sheffield for a time, not sure how long I have a name and address but I dont want to post it on the forum. If anyone knows the vehicle I would be really pleased to learn more about it.

As it was found sitting at the bottom of a yard.

It was taken off the trailer and pushed into the garage.

Nearside bulkhead/footwell area. First of two small repairs required on this side.

Nearside bulkhead/footwell area. This is the second of the two repairs required here.

Engine bay area. This is not the origional engine fitted to the vehicle. Not sure what the reason for the engine swap was.

Image0007.jpg

This is part of the gas conversion that was carried out on the vehicle. This has by now mostly been removed.

Image0015.jpg

The lower half of the dash has been removed from the vehicle. I hope over the period of the rebuild to replace this. All the ducting for the blowers have been removed.

The truck cab. This is what came fitted to the vehicle. Lucky enough the chap that I got it from had a full length hard top for it. I'll be fitting the full length hard top when finished.

Due to family and work commitments work time on the series 3 is short at present. I hope to tinker away at it and have her out and about as soon as possible. Many thanks for taking the time to look and if anyone has and helpful info on the series 3 it would be greatfully received........

thats better, we can see it now,

looks ok , nice and straight to start with , would benifit from a complete rebuild on a new chassis mind, 2.25 petrol?

Yes 2.25 petrol. Not sure if I want to go as far as a full chassis rebuild. This is my first project, I have bought the truck for off road use and I expect it will take a lotta abuse. I'm gonna use it for a while once I get it tested and sorted. Then possibly a more major rebuild at a later date.

its the only way mate, looks a bit soft under there , if its for off road only, get it strong and reliable, reinforced with angle iron and use it till it breaks in half! then do yer full rebuild, if its that far gone like mine is its not worth the agro to repair it ! for £700 yer can get a new one! that will last a life time am half way thru a full rebuild me self, series 2a

a lot more work than anyone can apreciate till you start doing it yer self

Too right m8, I had looked at that series of pictures before. Your really into it now with the 2a. I have looked at Paddocks for chassis outriggers and bits and pieces. They seem to be the cheapest for things. I'll replace the bad outriggers and put a few wee patches on the rails as they are by enlarge good. Im gonna take as long as I can out of it before doing a major ground up rebuild as you have started. Or possibly use it a stepping stone to another vehicle in a few years. I'm just busting to get it sorted out and on the road.

whats a grand ! :D easy come easy go is money, makes yer no happier if yer save it or spend it ! :p

as fer them axles, yer should be able to lift those at your age ! lifted me gearbox an transfer box ( both still connected) out by hand on me own, then lifted it on the bench, that were a heavy ****er too !
spose i get used to it workin on me own all the time ,

Oh i can lift the bastards.... just! Bloody heavy though!

Don't know how the **** you lifted that box out on your own though! I ain't even attempted to take mine out yet, still waiting for that engine crane  I have moved mine back now (Chassis is under a Gasibo for painting ) so i can work on the passanger side now :) Will take some piccies if i get some time

the box were tricky, once it was all disconnected i got 2 bits of fence post between the box and chassis so i could get my arms round the bell 'ousing and the handbrake drum then lifted and rolled it up to waist height to lift out of the way and on to the bench! must weigh 60 + kg at least, been lifting the bare block on and off the bench during the rebuild, but its back on the stand now, getting heavier, end of the day mate, if yer dunt feel happy lifting somethin dont !
should have 3 days solid on the series2 this week, bout time too,

Thats my plan, only problem is it needs to be MOT'ed, insured and taxed to go out with the landy club. So it's gonna need to be solid.

I did notice that the near side leg has taken quite a heavy impact at some stage. I noticed a slight kink under the front spring hanger. I measured from the ground up and it seems to be 20mm down on the near side. I dont think it will affect the drive that much, at some stage I may put a front leg section into it. Thats for a later date though.
