My rebuild is in full swing and rather than post each question on a separate thread I thought I'd start a new thread. I have put the main parts of the body together with some alignment but I will tweak later when the doors are fitted. At the moment they would just be in the way.

I have a 1998 110 station with a 300tdi. I have finally got around to dismantling the dash after putting it off for ages as I was a bit worried about all the electrics. I have absolutely no idea about electrics but wanted to see how the dash fits together and also to see if I can tidy up the wires a bit. I will be taking it to a friend after new year to sort out electrics.

I have come across this wire which was plugged into the instrument cluster where the 24icon appears. The other end wasn't plugged in anywhere. What is it? Can I bin it?

The lower dash seems to be just a duct from the heater to the cabin/windscreen and for wiring to speakers. Mine is totally rotten and falling apart.

Is it possible to get a replacement? I wonder if there is an aftermarket alternative... as the whole ducting mechanism for the heater/windscreen seems very primitive.

Here is a pic of my lower dash...the bulkhead is ok and was repaired.

There is some kind of join here...I guess not factory. Has it bypassed the horn? The wire from the horn stalk is purple, and then attached to a black and purple wire from the loom. Not sure why this is...any ideas?

I brought a 2nd hand lower dash as mine to rotted out. You can remove the pop rivets/screws on the top where the cables go through & replace this. You undo the cables through the ducts which would come out by your knees.

does anybody know the part numbers for the sliding levers on either side of the instrument cluster? The left hand side is for demister/cabin + temperature, the right hand side is for fan speed. My car is LHD so may be different to RHD. I can´t find the part number in RAVE

What kind of sealant did you use to reassemble the top please?
I've bought an original takeout replacement and refurbed it.
The foam is actually quite good, but I suspect it would benefit from some non-setting sealant.

It was some form of mastic that can withstand low temps. Unsure of the make it was a “free” tube
