Hello, all just bought myself a very solid 1985 5 speed (lt77 long stick) 2 door range rover (all factory fitted off the production line) its got the later dash and the interior is mint.
Right down to the point, the 3.5 is totally stock all breathers ect and running stromburgs. i want to ditch the twin carbs and run a weber (but the stromburgs safe somewhere) new cam as i think its a little worn and maybe fit some vitesse heads (as i have a set in the garage)

what i would like some advice on is the choice of cam and should i bother changing the heads. What about a nice double ss exhaust and headers? A step by step on changing the cam would be nice, i have searched and found nothing useful.
what im most concerned about is keeping it as orginal as possible but also usable, i would also like the purists view on lpg, so i should'nt i? Any one got a power plenum? any good?

Check RPI for cam advice, also Piper and real steel.What is the comp ratio on your engine? If its a low one you maybe better off putting an SD1 engine in, or changing the pistons etc. Edelbrock carbs are good, and a nice set of block hugger headers!! Check Cobra forums for Rover V8 info as they use them alot! Google Rover V8 books/tuning etc and you will find allsorts of info.
There are a couple of mods you can do to the block when fitting a new cam.1st is to drill two small holes in the front of the valley at an angle into the timing chain area, to allow the oil to drip onto the timing chain for extra lube. 2nd is to retro fit a cam thrust plate to the front of the block as per later 4.0/4.6 blocks. Thiswill stop the cam from moving forward and stretching the chain etc. Be very carefull not to dill into the oil way!!! I found both of these mods and more in Des Hammills book "How to power tune Rove rV8 engines" and David hardcastles books "Tuning Rover V8 engines"
