Greetings there, I've kind of introduced myself on the forum with a strange problem on my new landy. The battery warning light stays on after switching everything off and removing the key, but I thought I should probably introduce her properly :) Bought her from a farmer last night who'd had it in a barn for the last two years. It was used regularly before that on the roads. Had to take her on her first trip directly to the MOT station, which was a bit of a longer journey than I anticipated. It was a bit later than I anticipated as well given that the insurance companies kept on playing silly buggers. I'm led to believe that if there are windows in the sides at the back, and seats in the back too, then insurance as a car is very cheap (ie. the county body), but in our case we had to insure it as a van... Anyway, got it back no problems, but the battery warning light stayed on, and there was quite a significant amount of oil dripping from the top of the engine block on to the floor. Still haven't had time to look in to where this is coming from properly. I'm just praying it's not the big asbestos seal at the back...(requiring the engine to be lifted out...) It went through the MOT today, and didn't do too badly really. It failed on the brake hoses which is the main thing. Also a mounting on the middle section of the exhaust, a sharp edge on the side of the body, rear O/S indicator not working, and windscreen washer not pushing enough fluid through. The mechanic gave the chassis a good working over with a two pound lumphammer and said it was pretty solid, and that was the main worry, although I thought it looked pretty damn solid anyway :) The bulkhead looks totally fine too. It used to be a naval vehicle, and I didn't get any documenation with it really apart from the V5, which is a shame. I'm not sure how to go about getting any of the official documentation for it, but I'd be interested to. I don't know either if the navy do the same thing as the army and have the double corrosion protection on the chassis. The fact that it's still solid might say that it has..? My girlfriend's decided that it's called Yolandi after the eastenders character, so we've gone with that.. She doesn't want me to paint it NATO green though :( She thinks it's hers... :S I'm sure I'll be on here quite a lot, as it seems like a vast collective land rover encyclopedia of knowledge. Maybe I'll be dishing out some advice soon as well :) Cheers. Tom.

PS: where did all my nice paragraphs go? ...
