My latest post was about my new Range Rover Classic which i love, although it is causing me problems... LPG!!!

I bought the car just before Christmas, as it was an LPG and a great car, i thought this is the one for me. Ebay, no test drive, i know what your thinking serves me right but please read on.
I got there, paid for the car, nice condition, although i was paying top whack! LPG aswell, i'm laughing, drove back to brum happy as larry along the motorway.
It was only on my way home off the motorway i thought this car is a bit sluggish, oh well, it's been a long day i'll go for pint and investigate the next day.

Right then, more ebay bidding, collection from Shrewsbury, nice day, nice trip, up there, got package, driving back about 10miles from home... BANG! stumble, quick switch onto unleaded, got home. Pitch black, checked for pipes damaged, anything i could find nothing.
Now Christmas arrives, no one available apart from some helpful people on this forum, but no luck.
Car would start, drive fine, switch to GAS, get overtaken by the world, Skoda's and all...

Finally after my third attempt on Gas, my second misfire, which blew my Air box apart (i have the later air box housing) i found a garage open!

Opened the bonnet, 'oh no mate, not touching that!!!!', thanks a lot guys i thought, but they did give me the number of a guy close by and heres what he said, so read carefully if your in the same sinking boat!

there is light a the end of the tunnel, i promise...

1. My LPG set up was a complete Cowboy effort! Wrong system for the car, i have a carburettor LPG system on a Electronic Lambda sensor vehicle. Open loop on a closed loop system i think!
2. My regulator was upside down!!! drain plug stuck at the top, solenoid at the bottom. Also needed to be as parallel as possible to the wheel, so the diaphram is as unaffected as possible, basically when i brake and accellerate, my LPG cuts itself off and on.
3. My copper pipes out of the regulator were not 200 mm away from my manifold so they needed to be heat wrapped (you know what i mean).
4. My tank valve had 2 straps and as it was over 80 litres, it should have 3 straps.
5. My tank valve was illegal in the U.K.
6. My tank had no electric shutoff valve (no pressure release, BIG BANG!)
7. My other end of the piping should also have a shut off valve.

So heres what's happening... I am replacing the Spark plugs, HT leads, Dizzy cap and rotor arm to start. Also closing the gap of the spark plugs to 0.6 mm from there original 0.8 mm (smaller spark, hotter spark, better for gas.) Gas takes twice as much heat to ignite as petrol, so this is the best chance of setting the vehicle up properly before messing with the gas.

He is doing the rest, although i am running down the last bit of Gas i have so he can work on the tank, closing the two shut off manual valves either side on the tank, and slowly cracking off the regulator screws to release the pressure (it sounds like a tornado he says).

Apart from that it should eventually be set up soon, but remember this when you come to buy an LPG car, get a certificate!

Your not on your own with this sort of thing, I bought a P38 with a converstion and had problems from the get go, not has bad as yours though, mine wouldnt run on gas for any length of time and was drinking petrol quicker than i can a beer.
My saviour was a band of boys in Wolverhampton called Hilton Autogas Centre, Cannock road, Heatherstone, Wolverhampton, WV10 7AD
You may not have the same type of system that they deal with, however, they are a tip top bunch of blokes that helped me out with no fuss or bother and may be able to advise if you hit snags
Good luck
TT

Thanks TT, well, actually today i got some more bad news today, looks like the system needs complete removal and replacement, but i have found a friend who is qualified and will just charge me for the kit at trade price.
