Hi. I have been using this Forum for a couple of months now and thought it was about time I showed off my toy/workhorse/pride and joy.:D

I could not find the right place to put this thread so please feel free to move it if needed.;)

I brought my first Landrover last Autumn, the usual story, my mates were getting into green laning and off roading and after a few trips in the passenger seat I had to get my own.

I even got the rest of the family into it...... Result.

Here it is when I brought it.

Nice a comfy for those trips out.

Its a 3.9 V8 ES model.

Then I started to get it dirty.

The day after I got it.

Then I decided to give it a thorough check through for rust. I did the basics when buying it but wanted to see how good/bad it was.

The boot floor was not too bad. There is welding done on the arches, behind the rear door already and some surface rust on the boot floor sides but that was it. I removed the loose rust and treated it with Hammerite rust cure. There was section needed welding behind the boot rubber. A friend of a friend did a great job for not much money. He also found a patch on the chassi that he welded a patch on for me.

Then painted it all in Hammerite spray. Quite a close match

The footwells were quite good even though the carpet on the passenger side was damp, I needed to lift the carpet for a few days to let it dry out.

Then took it greenlaning before Christmas :)

Image054.jpg

Had a little fight with a tree on Monday night when we went out for some greenlane fun in the snow.

New glass needed

Looks good that.Whats next on yer to do list? Can I suggest diff guards at bout 30 quid a pair?Do you get out in it often?Taking it to Bures the weekend?-that'll test it!

Its been to Bures a few times, in fact the day after I brought it.

I have a Youtube video of me getting out of a ditch the the missus got stuck in on the first outing.

I am going to get the diff guards. The place I brought these bits from wanted about £30 each but I have seen them for about £19 each and will get those.

Its never gonna be a stripped out off road monster, I like my comforts too much. But I am lookng for some mud Tyres when I can afford it. I have brought some 16" steel wheels off a mates 110 Truck. I'm gonna get them powder coated and have the mud tyres fitted, then may sell the ES Alloys to fund them.

thats in the corner right by the edge of the site innit? Think i pulled a little sj outta there. Diff gaurds, Steering guards, recovery points & mud tires is all ive got. Looking for a bit of a lift but i think thats cos me shocks n springs are tired.Wasnt planning on going bures but wot with the weather it might be really interesting this weekend.

I've got everywhere so far on road tyres and no mods (Apart from cutting down the front bumper that got ripped off in that ditch the first time out)

I have been realy immpressed along with most of my mates that are amazed they have not had to pull me out of anywhere yet.

I did smash the side glass though going between some trees on a lane, the tree was near the edge of the lane and you need to drive round it, putting the landy at an angle.

Another Discovery on Huge Mud Tyres did it no problem but I guess mine slipped towards the cut down branch.

No, not the back hill, I know where m limits are :)

I've got an MOT booked for tomorrow, I resume the window wont effect it.

Sharp edges possibly, or even visblity.....
Took 6 goes at getting up that hill!

I took it for the dreaded MOT on Friday, and guess what......

Yes it Failed.

Needed new brake pads and cats. I had a blocked cat and had them removed and with a through pipe welded in, basically made a de-cat pipe.

The old pads were very bad.

New pads fitted.

The guy also pointed out some surface rust on the back end of the Sill, so I removed the plastic Sill covers and found this.

Image085-1.jpg

Image087-1.jpg

The rest of the sill look ok, just some surface bubbles

Image086-1.jpg

I got the hose out and run water through the sills and cleaned them up.

I will be getting te sill patched up next week then will treat all the little patches with rust cure and coat the lot in underseal

Then once I am happy its all dry it will get a load of Waxoil sprayed in there.

Now I need to sort out an exhaust.

I can buy aftermarket cats from EBAY for £199 but is there an alternative?

I was wondering what a decent full aftermarket system would cost with better headers. It might be worth paying extra to get some extra power and nicer sound.

Any motor factors should be able to supply you with a pattern cat (do you need two?) for less than that I would've thought.

However getting trade prices on everything for years has slewed my judgement slightly so I might be talking a load of tosh.

Unfortunately Mine needs Two. They come on a V shaped pipe from the Manifolds to a centre box.

I may be able to pick up a 2nd had one on Monday, just need to make some calls.

Got a few bits done today, Its been a great weekend for working on your Landy. Nice and sunny :D

I forgot to post these pics of a monster being built by the guys I brought my glass from.

Will need some silicon in there for now. I need to borrow a slide hammer an get it pulled out a bit

Image093-1.jpg

While the trim was out I found the likely cause of the wet interior, I had dug around the roof sill and found a couple of small holes which have now been filled :D
