Soooooooooo.....

I started building a Defender over the last 4yrs but had a change of heart, Sold it all and bought some Disco's!

Firstly i bought a shed of a 3dr:

It kept overheating, so replaced the head and got it going lovely, 200'd the front end and had some enjoyment:

but with all the rot it inevitably ended up like this:

So bought another:

I sold the off-road bits off it and fitted the following mods:

Terrafirma +5" Extreme shocks
+2" Bearmach Springs
Front dislocation cones
X-Eng Wide angle A-frame ball joint
X-Eng rear arms
X-Eng X-springs
Defender steering set up
Teflon Swivels with Castor correction
Janspeed exhaust
10x15 ET-50 Modulers with Insa Super Special Tracks
+2.5" Spring seats
200TDi rear prop (no cush)
Shallower front winch bumper (6" shallower then the original)
Defender arches with a lot cut out for clearance
Plus more.....

The ongoing plan was to galv a chassis and do the swap with more mods at the same time.
Then this appeared on eBay nice and local so i brought it home:

I wanted a commercial to start with so this got the ball rolling. I started stripping it down to see what it needed:

Not too bad. Needs boot floor and sills..... Pretty much the norm!
So that led to todays work....

But before it came right off, mike offered up the cage mounts ;)

More to come :)

should be a good thread, lots of pics we like pics, im intregued with the cage mounts, though, why the holes? surely capture mud..also i hope your strengthening the shassis itself where it mounts.

also i woulndt galve a chassis id buy a galve chassis, if you galve and old one then it rusts from inside out.

Yes the chassis will be braced sufficiently. Mike has a good record with cage building and I trust him implicitly. The holes are to allow galv inside. The chassis being used isn't the one on the truck, it's a replacement but it gets acid dipped prior to galving and extra holes drilled to ensure galv gets everywhere inside and out

So today i scrapped the old shell. Shame really as it was fairly rust free:

Then popped up to see how the chassis was getting on:

About time you started a build thread again.... :)

Nice looking Golf in one of the pics..... ;)

Which I knew you were takin pics I would have put my best underwear and stockings on

You really have got sex on the brain all day long Mikey, is Maz not keeping you happy at the moment?

Not much progress today didn't finish work till 3, just alot of measuring, leveling and working out where to take levels from.....bloody landrover and there tolerances.....

Awesome :)
Yeah as mike says now ill get the extended defender arches now that I don't need to cut them...
