Hi, I got this 1994 300tdi last year, I inherited it from the first owner.
It's done 47k and is pretty solid. But has a few leaks, drooping headliner and the dreaded curling dash top.
I'm slowly going through it to bring it up to spec.
I have had all the engine belts changed, the P gasket, water pump and fluids changed.
I'm getting the headliner exchanged next week and getting the transfer box repaired as it's leaking oil badly.
The stereo head unit is away, hopefully being refurbished.
I want to try and keep it as standard as possible.

It's really solid, I have known it from new and before it was mothballed about 10 plus years ago in a dry garage, I made sure it was cleaned and polished.
I made sure that any mud was removed from the underside.
Like I say, it has a few niggles, but rust wise, it's good.
I will be posting on the wanted section once I hit the required amount of posts
 
Looks very tidy! Make sure you get it rust-treated to make it last longer.

I bought a kit to fix the curly dash on my old disco 1. It’s awkward to fit. A tip though, don’t get your wife/partner etc to help as it causes a few crossed words! Ask me how I know... :oops:

I have always used old oil with a mix of diesel and squirted that around the underside of my vehicles. This had kept my fleet pretty rust free in the past.
I read about using a flexible drill driver to get the screws into the repair strips.

Unless you want/need them - I'd suggest getting rid of the side steps, IME, they rot the sills for fun :rolleyes:

As do use the steps sometimes, did realise they could fit the sills though.
Is it that they trap dirt or something like that.

No - it's because they stop airflow, and the sills never dry out - the tiny drain holes are part of the problem, but the steps just obscure them - and the rot sets in from the inside out :mad: .... There's a study somewhere about the size drain holes need to be to actually work - and it's much larger than I believed... my (new) sills have 13mm holes every 200mm, and 30mm holes on the inside vertical face.... MOT man comment - "You're learning" o_O

And NO underseal !
 
Oh, ok. I will have a good look at them (when it stops raining) to check.
I have injected oil into all sections that I can get at, I have always done this to my car's

Tomorrow we are heading up to Guisborough to get the headliner exchanged on Friday morning.
We will head into saltburn on sea for a mooch about.
Any recommendations for eating out or things to do.
 
Don't know if anyone is interested, but I will take photos of the new headliner once done. The price seems really good for the service.
Are we allowed to promote a service/company on here
 
These are the headlining before and after photos, I know it didn't look to bad, but it was sagging and it's now a nicer place to be.
