What would you call it if it was half Disco and half Defender well 90 really ?

Just found out that the hocky sticks are different and that Disco and Defender are diferent thicknesses at the axle ends.
I wonder if they are the same length though?

Callin it a hybrid because it has 90 chassis and body with Disco Engine, gearbox and transfer box plus sreering box.

Thinking of putting disc brake axle on the rear as well and maybe Disco front axle cause I've just rebuilt the swivels and brakes.

What is it then and do I need a Q reg even if I change the bits over a period of twelve months:)

the front radius arms are only different on earlier all 300tdis models use the same including axles on 90

Thanks, I have '84 defender , 1990 90 and 1998 Disco hocky sticks and a choice of '93 110 CSW and 98 Disco axles and the 1990 90 of course

Best maintained axle is Disco followed by the 110 CSW then the 90 axle.

Might be better using the 24 spline axles from the Disco although I do have a 110 Salisbury rear axle in the nettles somewhere:)

24 spline is better ,you can either swap arms or use csome large flat washers with the thin aqrms and wider axle brackets

Thanks James

As long as the sticks are the same length I can just swap the complete axle, maybe leave the shocker where it is and the harmony do dar as well:)

there all the same length ,we used to convert the later cases for lr by tack welding thick washers so they could be used on earlier trucks

300 tdi axles (disco) just bolt straight up to 300tdi 90 chassis front and back inc arb at front The rear arb needs a little angle bracket to bolt to on the 90 rear chassis The hockeys are straight on as well . The cross member on the auto box needs a little cut out on the top edge to miss a bit of chassis webbing The disco steering box and drag link is a straight on fit . disco rad/intercooler carrier needs a locating peg mod , hoses are straight fit The disco rad shroud top wont fit , but with a couple of cut outs fits elsewherre. The auto cooler pipes need shortening , and used a diffrent cooler as disco one too wide to fit . HTSH

Re points , axles etc are all just a replacement part as some models of disco and 90 use identical parts . smae as g/boxes etc . They are not different types eg portal , or cvt etc JMHO

whose going to able to tell difference between disco axle or sterring box etc

AND....

Does this apply if the modifications are all done at the same time or has it all to be done at once.??

Was going to use Disco front springs, they are probably the same as 90 ones though.
I put Disco fronts on the 110 and HD on rears which was perfect for towing and comfort, rolled nicely at the front and dipped when braking, soaked up speed bumps etc:)

The 90 is going to get HD springs on rears for towing car trailer etc and soft on front, so if I use 90 springs on front then I get to keep my reg...Daft innit

Oh and a second hand chassis = Q reg according to the website:confused:

I've got a disco 1 front axle on my 90 - no issues - unless you want to fit 'Fender alloys...

Going to run the Disco tyres off first, theys on Boost alloys then going back to me Wolf wheels

Not sure how the 200 tdi will cope with big wheels and a Disco TB so using the 16 inch Boosts first.

considering aftermarket springs are often the same for disco/def

Spose so, just a technicality.

Disco I think use the same rate spring as a 90

The 110s are not as soft backs are different anyway.

So I got me springs (suspension) 4 points and me chassis 5 points so home and dry:D

Would like to put the 110 axle on but the brakes are rubbish even after putting new shoes and adjusters on I couldn't get em keen, passed the mot but not as sharp as I would like especially with the V8 up front and a Disco transfer box she pulled 90 in third, daren't go any faster she was swaying all over the motorway.
Spare wheel and towbar on roofrack didn't help either:)

I had tried Freestyle Defender alloys on em, but the hub is too big on the disco axle so wouldn't fit. I know you can get em to fit by making the inner space bigger, but I just stuck to spoked steels in the end.
