Simple question (I hope)
I'm about to do some work on a ex military 2.25 petrol engine before swapping it. I'd like to fix it to an engine stand via 4 bolts that I understand are the same holes that hole the flywheel cover to the block.....

Anyone know what size bolts i need as i would think the ones used to hold the cover on will be too short??

Thanks in advance

Andy

The bolts currently used for the housing will be too short. If it's a 5 bearing engine then they should be m10 x 1.5. If a three bearing.....something else (7/16?)
Either way, get some threaded rod and nuts and use that.

Edit. 3/8 unf was imperial one

Hi,
Thanks for that!
lots of cleaning to be done, new clutch etc then the big swap. I just know having it on a stand will make things much better :)

Roll on next weekend

Hi,
I have hit a snag swapping a 3 bearing engine with a 5 bearing one.... All the parts fit but none of the dolts :-(
I'm going to try and pick up the correct bolts but is anyone knows the thred size of the following just incase i need to improvise while waiting for delivery of the correct bit...

I need to replace
engine mount bolts x2
3x dizzy bolts that hold the alloy triangular mount to the block
3x long bolts holding the thermostat housing together
2x bolts holding the alternator bracket to the block

with luck the local land rover shop will have stock... if not it would be good to be able to pop into screwfix on the way back :)

Many thanks in advance

Thank you,
I have a three and a five bearing, engines to mount on the engine stand.
I've been able to order long lengths of the correct threaded studs thanks to your posts and replies, which will be really useful when I resurrect the 1982 5 bearing for use, and temporarily fit it to Gigi the Landy; while I rebuild her 1974 engine to run on unleaded fuel. My latest engine from my other project has been modified to run on unleaded already.
I know this post is a few years old, but it's still useful knowledge thanks all
