Hi,
Does anyone know of a land rover 'friendly' or sympathetic MOT centre in or around Derby?
THe MOT is due and there are a few bits which i'm sure shouldn't be the way they are but anyone who has a landy will know about that!! I'm only talking little things like a small bit of rust about the size of a 50p on the door pillar of the bulkhead.
Anyway, any recomendations would be gratefully received!!
Cheers

Just a time factor at the moment. I want to get the landy MOT, taxed and insured so that i can move it to a new location as i'm moving house.
You can come round and fix it if you've got some spare time!! I'm sure you know how involved moving house is.

I would say the bulkhead is structual as your brake pedal box and stearing box is mounted to it!! That and the fact that if yours doors fall off as your driving around would be frowned upon by the local plods.

Well it did fail!!
Not on the bit of rot on the door pillar but a small bit of rot in the footwell which is about 2" square. He knocked it through with his hammer which is fair i suppose. I didn't think the footwells were structural but he rockoned that as it was with 30cm of a body mounting point it was a fail! That's a new one on me!
Also, he decided that the brake pipes were corroded. This was after he had ripped them from their mountings, waggled them around very forcefully and split one!! I'll not be going there again!!
Relly now, does anyone know of a reliable garage where i can take my landy and get a consistant good level of service with regards to MOT's in or around Derby? Every year i have the same problem with garages that seem intent on failing you for things that aren't failing points. One of my mates was told that his series 3 landy failed because the power steering bottle was leaking!!!! Power steering on a series 3! I wish!!!!!

Yep footwells are part of the Bulkhead which is structural and therefore any corrosion is a fail. The brake line wouldn't have split if it wasn't rotten. It seems to me is that what your actually looking for is someone to issue a dodgy MOT Which is illegal

I'm not after someone to issue a dodgy MOT at all. All i am after is a consistant level of interprtation.
Ok if the footwells are structural thats fine i'll do the welding. There is no way that the pipes were rotten. I admit that they were dirty and not shiny but not rotten. I saw him pulling them around and ripping them off the securing clips which they are held onto the front xmember with. Why did he need to do that? If they were rotten he could have seen it and noted it.He didn't have to make it so i couldn't drive home!! The brakes were fine. He even commented on it when HE drove it into HIS garage.
I don't mind doing the work to get it through an MOT and i want the vehicle to be in as good condition as i can get it as it's me that drives it. Maybe it's just the way that none of the test centres i know are helpful. It's like you are paying them to be insulted. I'm an inspector myself so i know things have to be right but half the time it's how you tell someone. If they aren't aware that something is wron how are they supposed to mend it? He didn't even tell me which pipe was rotten!
