This is what I got...

Reason(s) for refusal to issue Certificate
Nearside Rear Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded (5.2.6) - NOT STRUCTURAL!!!!!
Offside Rear Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded (5.2.6) - NOT STRUCTURAL!!!!!
Brake master cylinder/servo mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded (3.6.C.3) - NOT STRUCTURAL!!!!!
Advisory Notice issued
Nearside Front Front wheel bearing has slight play (2.5.A.3c)
Parking brake: parking brake efficiency only just met. It would appear that the braking system requires adjustment or repair. (3.7.C.1b)
Rear Brake pad(s) wearing thin (3.5.1g)


Had a discussion with the MOT man, as not happy with the point of the Inner wing for the brake servo, as redid all of the inner wing, only from below and left in the old metal as couldn't really get at it - after realising this, his answer was to make the top side look pretty with filler and underseal and that will be fine :eek:

Those holes and parts pulled away where certainly not there when I dropped it off :mad:

I appreciate some of the MOT rules, but this is just getting silly - I feel if anything the advisory for the rear brake pads and wheel bearing are more significant to the roadworthiness of the Disco than the fails :mad:

They finished the conversation by saying how good it is as disco's of this age normally have a list as long as your arm for the fails :rolleyes:

But as we are just the 'little people' in this world not much more I can do than plate up the wheel arches and make the inside of the bonnet inner wing 'look pretty'.

I will also tighten up the hand brake, although this has hardly ever been used given its an auto, so god knows how it has become less efficient, change the pads and tighten up the wheel bearing so it gets its ticket for another years motoring.

Means my new LED light install will have to wait too :(

Corrosion within 300mm or whatever of the anchorage is a fail, that's the rules.

If there is corrosion with the prescribed area(s) it will fail. It doesn't do you any favours to be otherwise, or would you rather wait until you have an accident and the seat belts fail?

A few patches will sort that so its not that bad ,some testers may of let you away with that and the third pic looks like he hasnt used the prescribed mot tool but you will be cutting out the rust anyway so id say youve got off lightly for a disco 1 !
 
Well, first 2 photo's sorted....just need to sort out the last one tomorrow as in for retest sat at 9.00am :eek:
 
I empathise with you and the mot man. He has to bear in mind that if you crash and a rear passenger goes through the windscreen cos their belt anchorage failed, he goes to court and loses his lifes work. You have to spend a day welding. So its not thst bad. Mine was fecked and the mot man was generous. I still didnt trust my kids in it tho even after repairs as there was a lot of corrosion under panels that he missed. So I think your disco has done ok there dont be too disappointed.

I know, its just annoying when I know that there is nothing actually structurally wrong, or it would not be on the road....

Work done so far - not pretty, but functional.....

Will hopefully get the other side sorted tonight and whilst the wheels are off will switch over the pads.
 
It should pass like that but long term you would be best off cutting out the rust and welding it aswell as rustproofing ,as fibreglass just holds the rust and it will only get worse
 
That ain't fibreglass - its metal, just a really bad job using lots of little bits to get the shape and not much grinding to make it all smooth :rolleyes:
 
Corrosion within 30cm of a seat belt or body moung is a fail sorry

Its for your own safety so stop complaining when the MOT tester was well within his right to fail you

As is' poets day' i've had time to take a quick pic of my o/s wheel arch just to show not all discos rust, it's now 17 year disco and has never failed and neither did my RR the ten years I had that.

In fact I've never had a vehicle that has failed an MOT test, perhaps if you look after a vehicle with servicing, maintenance andwashing and polishing you if you go near any MUD.

Anyway don't worry about advisories, 3 years ago I had one for a chip in the windscreen in the drivers viewing area although it had been there for 10 years or so, no mention has been made since on the chip.

Now they seem to mention the ring of rust on the outer edge on the face of the brake disk something like 10mm maybe ...its X 2 on that one :D

Not so much as a 'bodge' but did it the wrong way - the otherside will look a lot better, and when I have a bit more time, I will sort out the mess I have made :rolleyes:
 
Mine failed on the seat belt anchor points too. I'd started cleaning up a bubble and ended up with much bigger hole than you had. Once started and looking for good metal it's surprising how much I ended up cutting back.

Funnily enough my n/s wheel bearing needs tightening too. Is it an easy job?
 
Not too bad to do bearings on mine as can get to them without taking off the wheels with modulars fitted.

No longer disappointed. ..after 2 solid nights work, nice clean ticket with no advisories :D. Happy man again and can get to work with the led light bar fitment now :cool:

Is that a transformers decal on the bonnet?
I have a got a Disco v8 i'm selling and it has a transformers decal on bonnet, it don't half put people off of buying it.
