Depends what you want to lift? Rear wheels, one rear wheel?

I use a hi lift so chock the front wheels, jack the rear X member on the side I want up & put an axle stand under the plate that the spring U bolts pass through & lower onto it.

You could then jack the other side up the same way. I'd never use the diff!

Pretty much always the bottom spring plates for me (making sure the vehicle is chocked) - just make doubly sure it's firmly secured as you don't really want it rolling back off the trolley jack if that's what you're using!
