I use it in my 1999 (S reg - one of us must be wrong?). Can't see any reason why not. Mind you last time I bought some it was the same price as the normal stuff. I've run mine at up to 50% bio and the only difference is it runs sweeter.

Would be nice to know what Morrisons put in it. I've read that they source it in the UK and use at least some recycled bio. That said, they aren't forthcoming on their website, and I suspect they just buy whatever is cheapest. Must be up to standard though, or they'd have a LOT of complaints (remember Tesco and their duff petrol?)I don't touch any supermarket fuels myself. Knowing how much bio-diesel is going around with palm oil in it I don't touch that either.
TD5's are meant to run ok on propper bio though
The man at Pure Fuels Ltd - London's Biodiesel Company reckons it's best not to go above 50% on a TD5, and he makes the stuff.

On testing the petrol it wouldn't ignite. even after dispensing the fuel from the pump in front of the manager and then trying to loight it he still refused to admit there was a problem.In the winter I went out to numerous cars and 4x4's running on bio diesel that wouldn't start. Some were only running 30%. After warming the injector pipes with a blow lamp they then started. I spoke to a local manufacturer/supplier at a later date who admitted that the palm oil was doing the rounds.

I tried the Morrisons Bio30 in my TD5 - it didnt like it at all..!

This was when they started changed reg's every 6 months instead of 12. My first car was a v reg, registered in 99..

The tdi's are less fussy about what you put in 'em but then you've gotta trust morissons that their biodiesel doesn't contain palm oil . Personally I haven't bought any fuel from a supermarket for years and won't ad infinitum.

I've never had problems with supermarket fuel. But my TD5 seems to run much better on BP. It is a case of you get what you pay for I think - supermarket stuff has fewer (if any) additives. Mine runs best on BP Ultimate, but it costs more.
Have you noticed that in France they sell two grades of diesel - car grade and truck grade, which is cheaper. Last time I filled up with car grade it smellt of perfume, which is beside the point, but I doubt if the supermarkets sell anything better than truck grade.
Have you noticed how clever Morrisons are - there's a warning on the pump not to use it unless your manufacturer's OK'd it - ie unless it's a VW. Anything goes wrong in any other car they can say we told you so - not our fault.

Blimey. My first car was 5438HN. And I thought that was modern because it had the numbers in front of the letters.
I've never had any problems with supermarket fuel either but every time I used to check my fuel consumption I found I got at least 10% more miles out of it when I'd filled up at my local shell as opposed to morissons which is closer

Funny you should say that. I get 10-20% better mileage outta esso over supermarket fuel. I also find I have more power too.
I used to fill my truck up at my local supermarket to get the reward points. I got loads of points but my truck was gutless. Now I use esso it has some go in it again.

I filled a whole tank, the engine hated it until proper warm, would stutter and would struggle to drive on tickover and low revs.
Was fine on motorways underpower with a hot engine.
I wont use it again!

i wont use supermarket fuel. i found when i was driving for a living i noticed i couldnt get as good a fuel economy on supermarket fuel..............was always a mystery but a fact. noticed it most when doing same run day in day out and odd time i filled up at supermarkets i couldnt get as far on the fuel

I think we're looking at two different things here. If your engine wouldn't run on it when cold there was something seriously wrong with the fuel - sounds like the bio was badly made.
As far as performance goes, it's mainly down to the cetane rating. Bio-diesel has a higher rating, so should give you better performance, but as far as mineral diesel goes, you can bet that supermarket fuel reaches the absolute minimum. Fuels like BP Ultimate will have a higher rating and give better performance, and the rest will be somewhere in the middle. I haven't enough experience of Morrisons, but both biodiesel from PureFuels and BP Ultimate make a noticeable difference to the running and the consumption on my TD5. I'm less sure about ordinary branded fuel though.

The army barracks near me have issued memos that their vehicles are not to be filled with supermarket fuel following a number of breakdowns.

Interesting - as far as I'm aware military vehicles should still be filled with army (POL) fuel or with Shell/BP on a card. No reason for them to buy fuel from Morrisons or anywhere else. They might use it for something like hired-in Transit minibuses though, and the Morrisons stuff would invalidate the warranty, so I can see their point.
It's starting to sound as though Morrisons aren't too careful in their definition of "bio-diesel", which in itself is worrying, as they and everyone else should be putting 5% of it into their ordinary fuel nowadays.
