K&N are crap filters though...yes if you use v+petrol and K&N filters
Sorry but thats total bollox. From my memory your lt box will turn into iron filings at anything over 225lb ft of torque ( with out any thing done) the most popular choice for uprated ungines is the R380 as that can respectively take 380 lb/ft. I've seen quite a few with a GMC 6.2 diesel block attached.
How do you plan to hook it up. Do you know of someone who does a bellhousing to couple it to a Rover box or are you planning on full custom jobbie or a different box?Hello,
I have a 110 defender with a 3.5v8 and lt85 box, i have seen a nice 4.2v8 pumping out 306bhp which i must have, but will my beast take it
No they aren't. Early Chim/Griff (and Wedgies) used the LT-77. But since TVR lied about most of their HP claims the boxes where generally fine. And besides there is quite a difference in running a 1000kg 2wd sports car on 23" tyres and a 2 tonne+ AWD Land Rover on much bigger heavier wheels. They're the same gearbox in TVR's i believe, so don't see why not
lt77 and r380 share same brgs till k suffix and then only front cp shaft and rear layshaft have bigger brgs and the 77 refers to distance between between center of lay shaft and mainshaft as is lt85 and lt95 and series 3/2 which are 76 mm between centers,v8 lt77s where avaiable on rr and defender and discoSorry but thats total bollox.
1. The R380 is rated at 380nm, so that's about 280lb ft for starters
2. The R380 is just a slightly overhauled LT-77, which has a 77mm layshaft
3. The LT-85 amazingly has an 85mm one and is stronger
4. Why do you think LR put the LT-85 in V8 powered 90's and the LT-77 in the lesser powered 2.5TD's Because the former is the stronger heavier duty box

True, but according to LR (info dotted about the internet) the Range Rover (and Disco) used the LT-77 with the V8 as the expected use was likely to be less than that of your average Defender. In terms of towing and hauling. Maybe this was misguided, but I've read it a number of times.v8 lt77s where avaiable on rr and defender and disco
Yes, but I got some fairly low level specifics wrong. They got some major info wrong which has a huge bearing on a yay or nay answer.why sorry you got 1 wrong he got 3 wrong
