Hello,

I need more power as said before when pulling a heavy trailer.
Yea i know psi power box.

Iv'e bought one but the pictures supplied with the instructions are naff and i cant see the connection clearly. considering i paid £350 you would think the instruction pics would be clear.

Does any body have pictures that i can look at to help with fitting the box please.

What is the small wire where does it go?

Thanks

Big round connector goes to the FIP, hard to get at under the inlet manifold. Remove the one that is there, connect to power box, connect the one from the power box to the FIP. The retaining coller is just push and turn. The small connector goes to the MAP sensor on the fuel filter housing. couldn't be easier. Not easy to do pictures as the FIP connector is hard to see.

Thank you Datatek,

I will try and fit soon sorry if questions seem stupid...........lol.
Whats the small wire where does it go?
Do i have the correct psi box for p38 2.5 1998/?

Thanks

Mike.

Just seen your pic, what's the big yellow thing a connector? The round connector and the small black one are the same as mine, I don't have the grey wire or the yellow lump, in fact never seen one like that. I'd double check you have the right one.

Hi datatek,

its the inside of the plug that connects to the box.

Mike
OH, OK wires come straight out on mine with no connector to corrode:)
So the difference is the grey wire, no idea what that is for. As I said I'd double check you have the right one.

Iv'e just phoned paddocks, they assured me its the correct box.

The small grey wire: you can extend it attach it to an earth and put a switch between to turn box off as and when you need to..apparently.

Progress = unneccesary complication:rolleyes: I suppose you could get really clever and use it to turn the power box off when the auto box is about to shift to stop it knackering the box:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Thank you,

The box is on and i drove it up the raod for about 400 yards and round again.
There seems to be more power in second gear but there was a bit of a pause.

The job took longer than than i thought what with pipe orientation beneath the inlet manifold making things a very tight squeeze even for my small hands.
Dropping the fastening pin to one of the smaller connectors didn't help.

All in all pleased at the moment but will go for a longer drive later and report back.

Thanks again.

Mike.

It does feel a bit like turbo lag as the power kicks in, but then it goes like stink. at least mine did until the gearbox cried enough:eek:
A run down the Brentwood bypass is whats needed!

Hi datatek,
Not sure what if it's a coinsidence or not but drove car for about 7 miles hit some traffic excellerated away to try the new power source and there was nothing, in fact the car nearly stalled. Then I noticed it, the temperature gauge was in the red and the red light came on. Considering I had only just gone through dartford crossing toll booth I took the immediate junction and crawled to a safe place to stop.

Not only was the radiator header tank steaming,
FUEL (diesel) was spurting more like gushing out of the fuel filter where the feed pipe is attached.
As the car was turned off I removed the feed pipe then re fitted it once fuel had stopped spraying.
Removed header tank cap and started engine, replaced water lost and ran for 10 mins.
Drove for 6 minutes and the temperature Rose to just before the red line.
Got to my destination by recovery truck.
6 hours later rechecked water level top up, drove home 30 miles NO PROBLEMS.

None of it makes sense to me.
The journey home: car performed well, on cruse control at 55mph the car pulled up hill and seemed to go slightly faster. There was plenty of power when accelerating away from the lights right unto 70 mph. Of course I did not go above 70mph but it didn't take long to get there.

Strange day.
Not sure what to make of the overheating and fuel back pressure though.

Mike.

When I fitted my Powerbox I had a similar situation in that I was pulling a trailer up a steep hill behind a struggling skip lorry. Did not notice the temp going into the red and blew the top of the radiator. No fuel problem tho'. In fairness I had noticed the temp getting hot before fitting the powerbox but not into the red. Now £££s lighter and 3 weeks without wheels all seems well. Car runs well, certainly has the effect described by Datatek, (ie turbo lag effect) Loads more power but so far no comment of mpg, not expecting miracles!!!

I think the fuel leak must be coincidental. just not done up right since you changed the filter?

I reckon you disturbed the fuel pipe when faffing around fitting the power box. As for the overheat, more power = more heat and stress on the engine which will find any weakness in the cooling system. I'd check the viscous fan for starters.

Update on psi.
All running fine. It seems that the power comes in around 2250 revs and by about 2500 revs the is very responsive.
Not only will the car have a longer gear range it seems that I can engage 5th gear earlier.
I was able to drive with less gear changes once in 5th.
The mpg seems to increase between 1.5 and 2 mpg.

I've not fitted the wire which goes to the engine earth which your ment to fit an inline switch that can turn the psi off.
I heard it somewhere that the car won't pass an Mot with the psi, is this why there is a switch?

At the moment it will pass an MOT but with the new EU rules due to come in shortly it may not. I have just been to Spain and my lads father in law who lives there says you cannot add anything to a car that is not standard. He had to remove his wndow tints and side steps from a Merc he bought in England to get through the Spanish test. He later found out he could have had them added to his registration document by a main dealer and they would have been ok. For a fee of course. Unofficial mods are not allowed. You cannot just go to an accessory shop over there and bolt things on as you can here, it just won't pass if it's not a standard or approved fit. Silly but true. If the new EU rules are followed to the letter it will cause many problems for boy racers and modders over here.

your right there wammer,my neighbour in fuerteventua changed his renault kangoo from light good to private use.....157 euros for one piece of paper that came from madrid.
