If the gear stick moves around a lot whilst the engine is running t,his is normally due to a fecked engine mount.

There is a bush kit for the petrol but not for the td4.

Best bet is to get a low mileage used on from eBay.

You can grease all the ball joints which helps but remember which way the come off

:)

My knowledge of the td4 is limited. The only way to find where the excess movement is originating from is look. Get a helper to wiggle the gearlever while you get underneath with a torch and watch for sloppiness in the linkage. Check both ends of the linkage.

I was looking at the same problem on mine and it was a build up in all the ball joints that make up the linkage, if mine gets really bad I might try bodging by drilling a hole right through and putting a bolt or pin through, however this might not be possible depending on the way the joints move

from under the car the linkage at the gear stick end is the same as the rover 100 so i asume there must be some kind of a kit around

it just seems like a few rubber mounts and washers ,if i cant find a kit i will regrease and maybe try and make a solution up my self with rubber washers etc
