Hi guys! In my search for a 90 one has just popped up on the island! cant beleive it! anyway off to see it tomorrow but was just intersted in your expert advice. Its a 2003 TD5 county station waggon 94000mile solid chassis and bulkhead (how i dont know on the island) but the capping between the top and body could do with replacing! He wants £6000 but offered him £4000, said can have it for 5400 if i do the work!

what do you think? anything i need to ask? cam belt etc! im going to push for £4700/5000.

The thing is on the isle of man any car from england has to go through the dreaded manx test (think MOT but 10x worse, they fail you on dirty carpets; really tough) So if i bought a 90 in uk i could spend a fortune trying to get it through. But once a car passes you never need another mot for the life or the car which is very worrying looking at some of the rust buckets over here!:clap2: oh this car is manx so no test!

theres no cam belt but do obvious engine checks ie proper coolant with no signs of leaks or loss,no diesel in engine oil ,starts well etc ,theres no cam belt as its chain driven, cappings are easy fix ,rotten bulkhead ,doors ,chassis much more expensive so check them carefully

Body capping about £95 per side new, you might get a secondhand set, but post to here is the killer. If it's only the cappings and the chassis and bulkhead is sound that sounds good to me. Worth checking for service history and who did the work, make sure there are no ABS faults putting the lights on, if it has ABS. Misfiring may be oil in injector loom, so make sure it pulls smooth and has got a bit of poke. Don't haggle too much or you will miss out if it's any good.

I'd guess it didn't do 94k on the Island, so look at the history carefully...? Sounds promising tho. Good luck, A
