I went on my first ever trial at the weekend in my 90 V8. I hadn't tried using the diff lock until then, as at Langdale you only need low box to get you around.

Anyway, put diff lock on and no light was coming on, but it was definitely on as it was working. However, sometimes it was working and it simply danced through the dirt, and at other times both front wheels were stationary and got stuck in some pretty average mess.

Does anyone know the likely cause of this and is it easy to fix? Should I wait for service and MOT next month to get someone else to fix it?

TIA

You can't be going to the same Langdale I go to if you don't need difflock.

Generally speaking the difflock will either work or it won't work. Try taking the transmission tunnel off and looking to see if the linkage is connected properly and well lubricated. The switch is located near the high/low selector box and may need adjusting assuming the bulb hasn't blown.

Thanks, will take a look at it this weekend and see if it's anything obvious.

Ah, haven't been through the messier sections on the black run, but I've driven the rest of Langdale without a diff lock - mind you, I was following someone who is pretty handy and knows how to drive!
