Hi everyone!

Just joined this site to learn as much as I can off those who are willing to pass in their vast knowledge of Land Rovers.

I'm thinking of buying a 110 hard top ex-mil RHD and need some advice on replacing the locking mechanisms to make the vehicle more secure. Has anyone done this before? If so what is the usual going rate and can anyone particular garage be recommended?

Similarly, can anyone provide advice as to good regular maintenance tips?

I'll be buying the vehicle with 11500 miles on it and the general condition both internal and external looks fantastic!

I've been told that these vehicles expect to see a good 200k miles lifespan easily but again wondered if anyone can back this up?

This is something I'm really passionate about being ex-mob and I suppose on some level only trust military kit. So, anyone that can help me out with some advice I'd really appreciate your time.

Thanks in advance,

Phil - County Durham

Hello Freelander,

Any advice?

eyup Phil

the best advice i can give you is use the search button above.

there are many security devices to stop your tratter disappearing, clutch claws, wheel locks and some external lockable blocks (my pal has them on his defender)

good luck ;)

change locks yourself, simple job, fit deadlocks too for when locking up and tracker

Cheers Dr Evil. I was gonna call you just evil but I didn't want to ignore the fact you probably didn't spend years at Evil medical school to have refer to you as just Evil?

I've never had a go at doing anything to vehicles. I do want to get into though hence the post. Where would I get the locks from?

Thank's bud. Only 2 minutes in to being a new member and already appears someone has crossed the line with comments.

Any advice you can lend in relation to my thread?

Get them on eBay and do it yourself and save money

I don't dabble in the medical side :p mechanics and things that go boom are much more fun ;)

Locks can be gotten off most sites like brookwells, LRparts, etc. Deadlocks someone on here sells them, put up a post in wanted once you're allowed in

Doing a door lock is simple, download online workshop manual for free and follow

No probs, its simple enough to do on a fender so just have a go

Sure if you're close enough to someone on the rescue map they'd lend a hand
