Just been to have a look at a TD4 3 door auto and all was going well until I looked under the car and there was no propshaft.

If I was to get a replacement are they all the same, ie 3 door, 5 door manual and auto?

I know all about the risk but the price was ok and this was the only major bit I could find wrong with it.

Pretty sure all props are same length, front then VCU then rear.

BUT, depends why prop take off. Could just need a new VCU or could have a busted IRD or diff or both.

It easy to tell unless you drain oil from IRD and check for free play on both.

Worst case budget for IRD and prop and VCU. Never seen a vehicle with both diff and IRD broken so cost wise that should give you an idea.

Check Bell engineering for prices, prop bearings x2, VCU and IRD. Buy the prop on eBay.

Its difficult to test the condition of these parts before you buy. Its only once you've got it home and can have a good look that you'll have an idea.

You should always budget on a replacement VCU regardless of what you're buying.

If you find you don't need it, then that's a bonus.

If the IRD was trashed before the props were removed, then you're going to need a recon (it definitely will have been if its got a blanking plate replacing the rear pinion). If the props were removed before any damage then great, if some damage had been done, then you can maybe get away with just replacing the bearings in the pinion. That assumes no damage to diff.
