Evening gents, I thought I would update on the entertainment of Rita the Rangie...

After finding a bent open engine thermostat , me and my friend looked in to all possible further issues that we could think of. My friend is a bit of a Range Rover guru and so knows at least some of what Wammers might have already forgotten by now! Anyway, next on the list was the HeVAC. Left blower motor dead (mate had a spare on his shelves) and air con belt missing. Turns out the tensioner is completely gone. I've had a look on rave and ebay but can't find the parts just yet. I'll update with pictures when I find out what it should look like versus what it does look like. Although, if in the meantime, some helpful fellow could post a picture of what their air con assembly looked like then it might be very helpful.

This is a diesel ac tensioner

and can be seen bottom of this picture just to the left of the crank pulley and has a separate belt

Thanks Brian, that's entirely what is missing from my car! I'll contact the local breakers today and see if they have one.

Maybe your knowledgeable friend could take a look for you and find out if the AC compressor actually turns when activated before you go any further. Maybe the tensioner failed and was removed, maybe the compressor failed. You need to know.

There was a recall on tensioners on the Thor engine because of failures and a new part was issued.
The recall note was A/B/D216

Seem to remember some confusion finding which was the right belt for mine and ended up taking it in. Somewhere around 640 rings a bell.

I've got the correct belt but no tensioner. What Wammers has said makes a lot of sense though and so I'll check all the components first before getting too excited.

Sensible way forwards and i have not forgotten very much. :D
