Here's an odd one...
Yesterday went through a 1ft deep 20 yard long flooded section of road. Came out other side with engine misfiring, belt squealing and trailing a cloud of blue smoke. After 10 seconds everything back to normal. Suggestions invited - other than avoid flooded roads which in Kent at the moment ain't easy!
Seriously what is there down there that can have that effect if it gets wet - and what can I do to 'waterproof' it - after all plenty of discos are used off road and must encounter much worse than my 20 yard 12"deep flood!
 
probably water has got into a connector, but worst case is water in engine. depending how fast you went through the flood, the intake is routed to the inner wheel arch. so water can be forced into the intake.
 
Haven't checked air filter - probably too late now (36hrs after). Speed probably around 15-20mph - fair bit of water chucked up. Is the air filter inlet that vulnerable?
 
no not that bad but after a day on the plains mine was damp small amount of water in bottom of box. Did chance my luck with one water trap tho.

Too fast, sounds like it sucked in water.
 
The blue smoke makes me think water too. Check the oil level if its gone up then its had a good drink. Check and probbably replace the air filter. If it has you'll need to drop the oil outta it.
On ankther note the only td5 fender Ive driven had an issue with ecu getting wet cos it went through a wheel wash and missed on one cylinder.
 
+1 on that,TD5's pick up water into the airfilter VERY easily if you charge into flood is plenty....

I agree aswell.
Its back to normal as the air filter dries out fairly quickly with all the air the engine needs getting sucked through it.
Genuine filters are tolerant to moisture unlike cheaper paper ones.
And as has been already said, dont go charging through standing water.
