As above really, fancy getting a metal lathe and have done for a while for doing a bit of general work on so does anybody have one going?

Preferably at a lowish price as I'm only on apprentice wages

good luck with getting a cheap one Sam

i've been looking for years and they go for a fortune

Yeah I know :( I have seen some older ones go quite cheap on ebay around the 100 mark which would be great but are way too far away for me :( Have seen a treadle lathe quite local to me though it looks a bit worse for wear

i learned to program on an EMCO lathe, quite small and great for model making. have a look around for one of them ;)

the older engineering lathes are massively heavy and mainly buggered.

Cheers shall have a look for them :) Have added to my watch list as has 2 days left to run :)

Best of luck. Just keep on plugging at it on ebay. I was in the same situation, and I unfortunately bought a lemon of a home-made thing for £60 before finding a nicer one! Basically, the bloke just hadn't advertised it properly so I got it pretty cheap at £100, so bargains can be had :) I'll upgrade at some point, although it won't be imminent (before you start thinking about mine). Someone else can start off on my lathe, and see whether they get the bug, and then upgrade to one with more tooling etc etc.

here's my £100 lathe :) (I'd only just bought it, and you can see, halfway though, the strain I was putting on the thing cutting out huge shavings fills me with pain now LOL)

Perfecto metal lathe. Direct copy of Myford ML2/4. - YouTube

If eBay doesn't pay off, google David Gingery, and make your own Gingery lathe ;)
