Gearbox in me 90 has always been a bit clunky, but has gotten worse recently, knocking when depressing/releasing clutch, knocking when shifting gears, etc. Spoke to Dave Ashcroft who suggested the old mainshaft wear, took the PTO cover to confirm fears.

Looks like I'm gonna need to sort it soon. Dave did suggest buying a cross-drilled gear as a temporary 50% reduction of the total backlash, does anyone think it's worth it with this amount of backlash already present?
Unsure what to do at present, no way I can afford anything right now anyway. Will either look to get it overhauled with one of local Landy specialists or go all the way and get a reconned unit fitted at Ashcrofts.
Also, talk of R380 box being stronger and smoother, it is tempting to go for the upgrade (depending on prices), has anyone got any views on the true benefits of doing this over a reconditioned LT77? Would obviously go the Ashcroft route with this path.
Cheers.
