To add the new fluid do I need a form of pump to get the fluid in, or can I get the container that the fluid comes in high enough to do the job?
 
I've heard of people using an EP90 bottle and squeezing it uphill, messy and a pain to get the 3 litres of oil in.

Difflock do an oil tranfer syringe thing here , click on difflock store, then on special tools - it's at the bottom of the list.

And if you know someone who works in a hospital or primary care, a big syringe and plastic tubing could be used.

....have you had to do a fuel leak from the fuel pressure regulator yet?
 
cheaper again though!

My wife is a midwife, she said she can get 50ml syringes that would take a while to do that way!
 
50ml syringes are for gaylanders. get the really big ones like they use on the carry on films!

I use one of these to fill my gearbox, got mine from machine mart.

Err yes. MTF94 matey.;) Posh oil for Discos.

But I use engine oil instead, cheaper and easier to squirt uphill.

I hope you change that regularly, not designed to take the 'crush' forces of a gearbox.

Hmm, not really. More than every two years would be overdoing probably, and as I say, it's so much easier to get engine oil in and it drains out so much easier too. Do you think I should be using something else? I do stick gear oil in the tranny box though.
 
I'm no oil expert, but have always been told that gearbox oil has different polymer strength/structure to prevent it from losing viscosity/lubricating qualities that occur in a gearbox by the crushing forces applied to the oil as it gets 'squashed' between the meshing gears constantly.
The recommended landrover gearbox oil is fairly 'thin' and easy enough to squeeze in anyway (having just done it over the weekend in very very cold weather, thought I might have to warm oil first, but didn't).
