Man what a day....I started getting the seat box out today and man what a boring and akward job I take it all those nuts and bolts get replaced thier rotten:mad:.....My Franky is a SIII SWB Diesel by the way.....can I buy that seal stuff that goes round the whole seat box is it a waterproofing or summit...any way now that its out what can I use to clean all the mud and grime off the gearbox....so that I can see the bolts...its that bad 2 to 3 inches in places I will be as well doing all the floors and foot wells now that its all out and any other suggestions for what else to do while all the seats and floors are out...its a monster job though...but worth it all day long....:D
 
you could use a pressure washer to get most of the crap off then use a bit of "gunk" to get into the awkward spots. as for the seal you should be able to get a caulk sealant from a good motor factors although i'd be tempted to try some fiy silicone ,that stuff you get fur boats and the like.

cheers man....I cant believe the amount of mud and **** under there its scary but it has to be done its minging I might even do all the brake hoses they dont seem to have any clips and stuff and a lot of cable ties thay wont do mot will they....I have some picys to put up just to show you all....I think it looks awful but my mate says its ok and just needs treated and painted and stuff....Maybe im just tierd....Hopefully get the box out and sorted and back in Sunday...it looks like a mamouth task.....he he.....Bring it on...xx
 
i've just done me brake pipes and have some clips left over or you could get some from demon tweeks.. don't be tempted to go to a rover dealer unless you have some spare arms and legs!!

Looks like we're both on with the same job (gearbox out). I've got me box out and I'm sourcing a replacement. The Propshaft flange on the transmission brake was a bugger though, overtight and not enough room to get a socket on even with the other end of the prop removed and dropped. Resorted to dismantling uj then with the box out of the Landy I fetched the nuts off the flange using a slightly undersized socket and some heat.
Hope yours is easier than mine (assuming you aint done it yet). If you have done it then great. A high street Car Spares shop should have a decent silicone based sealant when you re-fit yer seatbox.
I'm going fo stainless nuts n bolts for my seatbox / floor.

Hey Slob did you replace all yer brake pipes? was it a hard job it looks fiddly and time consuming...I had a look and I have 2 leaking brake cylinders and the pipes are held on to the chasis with cable ties That wont do for MOT will it....Did you buy ready made pipes or make them up yersel....Any bits you have that can save me a few sheckles will be great..would I be as well replacing the master as well while im there......
WP....We havnt taken the box out yet Sunday (the only day I have off) but it sounds like it will be a bitch I might try and get one of those tools that someone mentioned for the prop shaft bolts..stainless sounds good but are they not loadsa mula....at this rate I would be as well buying a new Landy he he.......xxxx

i got a dose of pipe from paddocks and some ends then just made them up as needed.( i had the flaring tools already ) bear in mind it was stripped down completly when i did it ,so there was nowt inn the way
for the prop bolts if you take the rear end orf first you should be able to get a socket on each nut in turn by turning the shaft to the required place then get someone to stick it back into geat for you. i've done stacks of props and never had need of the magic tool.
if yer gonna overhaul yer brakes then go the whole hog and do the master cylinder as well.
i'll have a look and see what i got left in the way of pipes and ****

oh and i know i have some clips left even got some that do the fuel pipe aswell as the brake pipe. i think they are for the discovery or the like
 
Phew......Its all done guys. Getting the clutch centred without the centring tool thingy was a bitch And that gearbox was heavy man.....it took 2 of us and a couple of good jacks to hold the F***ER when I got in there the release bearing was melted man a lump of plastic and marbly thingys so we fitted the new Clutch and bearing and put it all back together and those prop shafts were as you guys warned(cheers guys) and a little knowledge went a far way...It was all very time consuming and fidly but reasonably simple and straight foreward...The haynes manual was ok but a restoration manual I got from Buckley Bros was the business (cool book the 16 bucks paid for itself in 1 hit). Well let me tell you guys thats the first time I got to drive the Landy and I am still smiling guys it was Fab...I Love it rust an all...hope I didnt bore ye Guys...speak soon....xxxxxx
