Strangely enough for a Defender owner I am looking at a bit of a non Land Rover project.
When I was about 10 years old I had a Mamod SE3 steam engine as a Christmas present, and it is still in my loft, I want to restore it to show to my grandson when he is a bit older, but I am missing the brass smoke stack and the brass meths burner.
These seem to be hard to find, just thought I would make an appeal to the LZ people out there who may have any old bits laying around, that they may want to sell.
I bet some of the older members had Mamod steam toys in their youth, possibly explains why they would want to own a Land Rover.

You can get hold of new meths burners but they wont be brass, Forest classics do one to fit the SE3

For the chimney you can make them out of some brass tube warmed up then flare the end out using a half inch drive socket of a suitable size that fits in the tube, i have done this for a pre war bowman engine I have restored and works well.
If you want the dimensions of the stack I can measure mine if it is the same ish year, just means I will have to rummage in the collection to find it.
Put a picture up it would be nice to see it:)

Cheers I might go for that one, I found a brass smoke stack online too, I just need to take one last look in my Mother's outhouse see if anything is still there.
I will try and get a picture when I can its in the loft over my Garage at the moment so need to get it down, last I saw it it was a bit mucky, years ago I had no meths and tried to run it on some petrol I found in the shed that sooted it up something rotten but I recon a good strip down and clean will sort it out and I saw you can even get the transfers for the sides of the boiler stand.

There are quite a few company's doing spares for Mamod which is good,
I played with them as a lad, then got one for my eldest to fiddle with and have ended up according to the misses too many:rolleyes:, in boxes they will not fit into range rover boot, we can fill two pasting tables when they are on display :)

Blimey is'nt it enough to have Land Rovers without any other addiction, any pictures?
Must confess I just bought a boxed and unfired TE1a to put away for when my new grandson is a bit older, as a kid I always wanted one and now I have a brand new one.

I have been a member of a model engineering club and been messing about with steam traction engines and trains for many years and have a 5" gauge steam train and half size willys jeep I built for the kids which we show at a few steam fairs

Do they stlll make te1a? And what is fair price at the mo ?

What should I pay for brand new, still in box, on top shelf in the model shop ?

Looks like they are £180 brand new, get an old one cheaper the better and do it up more fun and you can make money on them, all mine have been given free or purchased cheap needing work, I look at them as an investment :)

My SR1a (still near mint btw!) was a massive £7.25 when it was new, I remember my mother accusing my uncle of showing off with his flash present by leaving the price on the box :D
