I came out of the fuel payment shop to find my td5 auto wouldn't start, reset it several times, made sure in p and n, still nothing, disconnected th battery, reconnected still had m and s lights flashing and nothing on the key. Had to get a breakdown tuck took me to my mechanics, rolled off the lorry, and then started first time. Had it up on ramp pulled the xyz plug and checked all looked clean and no corrosion, gave it a spray of contact spray re connected and has been fine ever since, still a bit worried it may happen again, is there anything I can do or missing with this fault. Cheers in advance.

Hi, I don't have an auto, but I've seen recommendations about extending what I belive are the air con drain tubes as they cause water to run into the xyz switch.

From my experiences with flashing m&s lights they in themselves and any problems they may indicate should not stop you from starting the engine.
Rather failure to start the engine due to poor electrical connections or failing battery would cause the m&s lights to flash as the auto gearbox electronics are very power sensitive and any drop in voltage will trigger limp home mode hence flashing m&s lights.

In the past I had also D2 td5 auto and had similar issues a few times. I also did not find the root cause but for me locking off and on the car by the key fob solved the problem.

Hello, you have done the best possible action other than open the unit and clean with new seals.
I know many people who have had this issue and after why you have done it's gone on for years without an issue.
