Currently rebuilding a 2a which has had a V8 and LT95 gearbox fitted at some time. I would like to fit a 101 bell housing so that I can reclaim the middle seat. At present the high low lever pops up exactly where the middle seat was. My question is how much shorter is the 101 bellhousing compared to the standard. Thanks in advance.

all v8 bell housing are the same length it is the engine which is moved in the case of a series engine transplant and i think the 95 the bell housing is cast to the gear box case

About 6" shorter from memory, dont forget you'll need the short 1st motion shaft as well.
Might not be that easy to find now.......

Not all V8 bell housings are the same length. The early V8 Range Rover and V8 101's had LT95 gearboxes with different length bell housings. Check out this site http://www.expeditionlandrover.info/gearboxes.htm Have found the information I was after. The 101 bell housing is about 7 inches long, the standard is just a touch over 12 inches long. The problem now is finding a 101 bell housing. Have found an input shaft on the web but the company want £170 +. Seems to pricey

Well I was only an inch out :p You might end up paying the money if you really want to do the mod,101 parts were silly money 5 yrs ago when my brother sold his second one.
