hi guys, sorry I know it's been asked, but I'm struggling to find a straight answer and I need to act quick.
So I bought a none runner 87 ex. Mod 90 with a 300tdj in her, got up and running went to back her out moved about half a foot then out and grind, can't move back more than a foot or so. Been right through everything I can think of no joy, all forward gears working fine.

Anyway been offered a defender r380 for a decent price (no bell housing out box), I'm just wanting to know if it's easy as box out transfer box swap. Bell housing swap and box back in, or is that just incredibly naive?
I'm a lorry doctor so not afraid of getting dirty but I don't fancy stripping any boxes down for a rebuild

Newbie question sorry but it's hard to figure, out what ever you read just seems to contradict the next.

No as the bell housings are different lengths - probably. Measure the length of yours and compare it to the r380, the r380 main casing is a bit different so measure the length of the whole gearbox, there are two lengths of r380 but the one that will fit are rare as hell, why is the 300 a non runner?

There is no bell housing on the r380 which I why I was wondering if I could use the lt77 one but no then so I'll need the short bell housing?

Oh and I'm not sure whether it was a lazy starter or lack of earths/ burnt out earth in chassis

you cant use a short r380 bellhousing on a standard r380 box without out changing input shaft etc
