I have striped the box but the shaft does not look that worn but the gear in the lt230 looks completely worn. I think someone has put a new shaft in sometime in the past but not touched the transfer box. I have no experience with these boxes someone can some one have a look at the shaft does not look that worn to me worn so I guessing it been replaced but the gear in the transfer box is obviously worn

what do yous think??

That shaft is well worn.

A dodge that works and one I have done many times myself is just replace the tfer box gear, its not pretty and its a bodge, but Ive done another 50k like that (on more than one car) with no worries.

Use the cross drilled type, some tfer boxes (JM will know which) cant have the X drilled gear, teeth width Iirc?

As above - that shaft is kaput - it will last for a while with a new gear - BUT all the swarf it creates will be shortening the life of your TB - so, ..... worth replacing both IMO.

if it has crossed drilled gear theres life yet, otherwise its a full strip down and recon, whats t/box number
depends on what your after a few years and a relative cheap fix or longer turn with a recon gear box

I reckon the the transfer box I was just wondering how bad that shaft was compared to the gear in the lt230 it looks not bad

Put a new cross drilled gear in a mates transfer box a couple of years ago and it is still going.
The splines in the replacement gear were longer than the ones in the original gear and so engaged with unworn section of splines at the end of the shaft nearest the box. Recon this will help extend the life of the unit and it limited most of the movement between the two. A magnet in the bottom can catch swarf
