I have a rather rusty and worn out 110,which as all landys will live again with abit of welding,
Any how the lt85 gear box is loud, now when i say loud you drive everywhere in 4th or reverse because all other gears drain out the sound of the v8 and the radio.

I have a C reg efi RR im stripping at the moment with a nice quiet manual box which im guessing is a lt77?, can i just swap the boxes over or is it more work than this.

Also i remember being told the santana gear box was "built proof"(clearly this one isnt!),and was worth getting rebuilt? whats the landy fans views on this?

Have a search or a google, it would be a step backwards as your current gearbox is slightly better....

To sum it up for you without going into detail, it wont be worth the hassle as its not a straight swap...

there are 2 types of lt85 20c lr 22c santana lr one is hd as has oil pump ,santana is easier to fix as case comes in half, you would need different tunnel floor plates bulkhead diaphragm, seat box tunnel flange ,and a long stick (defender style gear change housing) v8 lt77,and hi/low housing on transfer box changing ,why dont you replace lay shaft bearings in lt85 as they are obviously buggered, lt 85 are strong but not without faults (bearings and 1st 2nd selector fork)

4x4 tom,I did have a look on google and the advice seem abit mixed to say the least,
the answer its not worth the bother is perfect,

James it is a santana box, please ignore my slightly daft questions,if the Lt85 is a better box then im happy to get it re-con,however if the lt77 was equally as good i wouldnt worry, questioned answer it seems, the lt85 stays!

lt 85 is stronger by alot than lt77 although lt77 would cope admirally with v8 especially if oil cooled and lt77 have more positive less slack with gear changing , iwould get fresh set of brgs in lt85 as lt77 apart from bits needed to fit would want redoing brgs etc anyway

I dont want to turn this into a for sale thread so could anyone interested please PM me
its on 1986 EFI v8 RR im breaking the engine has done 25k
