The front wiper motor has burnt out on my 1984 LR 90. This happended during a rain storm at 10pm outside Glasgow on a 500 mile drive south from the Outer Hebrides. 9 hours with no wipers and plenty of rain! The wipers stopped working and a strong smell of burning filled the cab. I have now taken the motor out of the cab; the mechanics are gearing are fine, but the inside of the solenoid (?) smells bad and there are lots of scorch marks on the inside of the coil housing. I am not sure what needs replacing. A magnet on the bush assembly has worn away completely so not sure if it is only this that needs replacing. Rimmer Bros sell the bush assembly for £15 and the whole motor (less gears) for £40.

Can someone give me some direction on what actually needs replacing? The coil looks in good condition, but smells. I am hoping that I can get away with replacing the bush assembly only.

Grateful for some advice as I am no physics or electrcal expert!

you can get new motor and box assembly cheap from any lr parts person ,not worth fixing, motor windings will never be good now
