I intend to convert my 4 litre petrol Range Rover to lpg. I've got prices and details but would like to hear from anyone out there who is running on gas - anything to look out for? It will be either a Zavoli or a Landi system, both sequential, which is the better system?
Thanks.

I'm Thinking about doing the same with a 2002 4.4 V8 but I've heard from a good mechanic that the lpg burns hotter than petrol and therefore on a range rover engine post 2002 cooks the cylinder head!!!! I need to investigate further. Might buy a TD6 instead! if you find anything out please post me cheers!

i have a 96 4.6 hse and i have done about 7000 mile's since rebuild running on lpg, as far as i know my heads are not cooked, the state of the heads when removed before engine rebuild gave absolutely no cause for concern, vehicle has been on lpg since April 2003 and has done some 15000 miles on lpg before rebuild.
lpg does cause combustion chamber temp increase but that is taken care of by cooling system quite adequately as long as your engine is basically in good nick.
i think your mechanic is right but only if not set up properly but then again thats the same as petrol

Hi there.
I have a 4.0 ltr running a brand new engine on a Zavoli system (sequential) and had some trouble with cold change over issues and poor running. It's supposed to be adaptive and it appears that it's not that fab. The guy that i have been dealing with is going to manualy input the gas map by reading the petrol map and copying it over, but we have not been able to work out a suitable date yet. On the plus side it pulls perfectly well and with the injector timing opened out and set in super mode its almost spot on compared to petrol. If you jumped in it you probably would not be able to tell the difference for a while. Sorry, don't know anything about the Landi system.

Cheers, Nick.

this is the system i have, it was fitted in April 2003, before i got the vehicle.

its not the most up to date, as in its not sequential but its a dam sight cheaper than petrol and you really wouldn't know the difference either way.
i recently changed the plugs to the lpg recommended ones with a gap of .7mm and the difference was amazing.
it had been left with champions in it gapped at .9mm by the engine overhaul people, they just set it up for petrol.
these are the recommended plugs eBay.co.uk: NGK IRIDIUM IX SPARK PLUG - BKR6EIX-11 : 3764 (item 260000957273 end time 19-May-07 11:07:29 BST)
