I know I am going to get ripped for this but I have a 3.9 v8 in my 90 and want to fit LPG and was just wondering what LPG system is the best one to go for? The reason for this madness is I am getting about 9mpg and want to use it more but it is putting a hole in my pocket!! I have a new MAF on order so should get more MPG but this will be expensive still!! I really enjoy driving the 90 but it cripples me every time I go to a petrol station and yes this is often.

Best to get a closed loop system. That is, one with a computer that adjusts mixtures based on O2 sensor readings. I would recommend (and have 2) a single point system and stay away from injection systems. Most people I know with injection systems have all had issues with inconsistent fuel delivery between cylinders, causing at least one to run lean.

Thanks for the reply but I am running full stainless without cats so closed loop is out of the question

Use a BLOS mixer they are superb

You wont need the feedback from a lambda sensor system

all you need is tank/filler, pipes, varouriser, blos, emulators, switch and various wires and pipes to connect the above

Ok cool sounds good where is the nearest place to buy kit or have it fitted? And how much is it likely to cost?

Are you grtting new or secondhand.
It may not be worth fitting looking at the way gas has gone up latley.
Its around 82p a lt near me and the economy drops a bit as well.
Just work out how many miles a year you will do as it could take a while to claw back the initial outlay.
If it costs you £1500 for a good kit to be fitted then it may take around 3500 lt of fuel to break even.

you are talking out of your backside the multi point system will atleast give a chance of getting over 13 mpg which still is crap single point is a strangulation on the engine either on petrol or gas so destroys the mpg even better top advise not!

i would be inclined to have a look at the petrol system first you could have a worn cam or another issue which if it is all ok should give you high teens in a ninety giving you better than gas mpg so going further to a tank which is what it is all about

Hi.

As above and also I find that with the V8 it's generally the pulling away (quickly) that eats the juice and if you haven't tried it already..... when your driving along the the road, slowly ease your foot off the throttle and see how far it comes up before you slow down...but definately worrth checking out the fuel system and running.....i find V8's sneakey when they degrade in performance.

I have had several classics on lpg, one P38 and now my poorly Discovery 2 and i get roughly 15-16 mpg on lpg......200-250 on a tank depending on route at around 60-65p/p ltr at around £35-39 to fill up ish with this car which is a heavy old fella.

Nick.
